Roadblock aids combat on July weekend accidents

State traffic officials set a roadblock on a major highway east of Lord during July 5 to 6 to slow down westbound traffic. Eight men from Revenue and Garcia’s port, with State Police support, operated the barrier from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to warn motorists and control traffic amid ongoing patrols and interdepartmental coordination.

Morrison Installed as President of Lordsburg Lions Club

Morrison was installed as president of the Lordsburg Lions Club in a ceremony led by Deputy District Governor Nell Smith last Tuesday. New officers include Charro Shaw as Tail Twister, Dunagan and Jose Barcenas as first and second vice presidents, with Jennings Jarvis and Harold Bishop among directors. Berg transfers off the board and a replacement will be appointed to finish his term.

Mail Schedules Explained By Post Office

The Liberal publishes local mail schedules for east and west dispatch. Day time deadlines: general mail by 4 p.m, Animal and Hachita by 10 a.m, Rodeo by 4 p.m, Red Rock Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. after 4 p.m. drop boxes for next trains. Incoming mail East 3:30 a.m. West 7:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Windows open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Rear entrance 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Readers urged to clip for future reference.

Lordsburg Represented At Annual Music Clinic

Lordsburg is among New Mexico communities represented at the Ninth Annual Music Clinic held for ten days on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque. General director was William E. Rhoads of UNM with clinic conductors William Wilcox Kirk Fredrick and John Morrissey. Staff included Howard Chrisman James Wood William Cramer Bruce Firkins Don Haddad David Kaplan Don Jacoby Ralph Levy Walace Cleaveland Walter Keller Dale Kempter Dorothy Kempter Donald McRae Ted Rush and Barbara Stubbs. Senior and junior high students from Lordsburg included Arthur Altuna and Ramon Sanchez Jr.

Dog bitten rescuer helps German police dog in Tucson

On July 5 C F Weinrapfel of Tucson freed a German police dog caught on Judge Brown’s iron fence. The dog bit Weinrapfel as he released it. Health Department and Liberal office seek anyone with information on the dog and its injured foreleg to assess rabies risk.

Fourth Injection of Polio Vaccine Urgent to Public Health

A fourth polio vaccine injection is urged by the Public Health Service for infants and as a booster for those who completed the basic three shots. Four cases reported in Las Cruces include three paralytic cases in children a two year old a five year old and another two year old unvaccinated. A 29-year-old woman with non paralytic polio had two of the three injections and now requires the fourth shot. Dr. Stan ley J Leland the state health director urged unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated people to seek the full course now.

Housing for teachers sought in August by Freeburg

During August teachers will search for housing for the upcoming school term starting late in the month. Call Superintendent Freeburg at Telephone 32 to list available houses or apartments so information can be shared with teachers seeking accommodations.

Flag Presented to Lordsburg by Veterans Group

The Lordsburg VFW Post 3099 presented the city with a U S flag flown over the Capitol in Washington. Tom Foy of Bayard delivered the flag to Mayor Alan A Rolf at the Little League field as the National Anthem played. A letter from the Architect of the Capitol certified the flag’s Capitol flight.

Lordsburg Men Made Kentucky Colonels by Kentucky Governor

Four Lordsburg men were commissioned as Kentucky Colonels by Gov. Albert Benjamin Chandler in recognition of public service. Honorees are Harber Heather funeral director, N. M. Morrison banker, Alan Koff mayor, and Jim Smith police official. The title is honorary and celebrated at an annual Derby eve banquet.

New Phone Directory Slated For Delivery

About 1 400 copies of the 1959 telephone directory will be mailed and delivered starting July 20. The directory lists all phones in service on June 16 and will be valid for one year. A larger number was printed to cover new installations and replacements, with international practice noted for contrast.
