Commissioners Approve New Highway Survey Plan

The Board of County Commissioners approved a highway survey by State and Federal engineers and pledged to review any changes for county clearance. Hyrum Pace chaired the session with Wilkinson and Edington approving, while H J Lorentzen of the New Mexico Highway Department noted ROW issues would be handled by Don Royco. Residents and business leaders attended, cheering a route from the city west to the limit.

Smith Poindexter Rites Planned at Long Beach July 20

Novella Smith engages William Poindexter of Lordsburg with a July 20 wedding at Long Beach First Baptist Church. Attendants include Olen Mayfield of Tucson and Mrs Mayfield. Phoenix couple visits Lordsburg on way to Alamogordo

Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Dickenson of Phoenix stopped in Lordsburg Friday to greet friends including Rev. and Mrs. F. R. Poage. Dickenson, formerly pastor at University Methodist Church in Tucson, will move to a large Phoenix church next year. They travel to Alamogordo to visit their new grandson, born to Anita Dickenson, a former Lordsburg teacher.

Library Board Sets June Reading in Lordsburg Hidalgo

Lordsburg Hidalgo Library board met with President Mrs Bethel Fuller presiding. War Production Board aids small miners with loans and priority access

G W Voelzel of the War Production Board toured the area and announced that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation can loan up to 5000 dollars for financing, unwatering, or preliminary mine development. Guides and forms are available in Albuquerque and El Paso offices, with serial numbers and priority ratings required after three to six months of steady production. A monthly and quarterly reporting system will track purchases and supplies under priority ratings.

Telephones Added Show Continued Prosperity

Herbert Beyant, manager of Mountain States pany, reports 126 telephones installed at the Army Post and about 40 in the city since last year’s July directory. He lists more phones and is installing as fast as labor and materials permit.

I W Clark of Santa Fe state high school inspector married Agnes Edington, Santa Fe grade school principal, Tuesday at the Shir ley Savoy Hotel after NEA delegates breakfast. The Rev Bam W Marble officiated with 84 New Mexico delegates present. They met at a 1929 Cleveland NEA meeting and have ties to Anthony schools and New Mexico education officials.

Ruth Whitesell and Edward Ray united in marriage by Rev McAlister at the Methodist church in Silver City on July 3. The couple were accompanied by Mrs. William H. Posey. Mrs. Ray, from Hartford, Connecticut, visited her sister for six months and studied at Duke University after Clifton Forge High School. Mr. Ray graduated Phoenix High School and attended the University of Arizona. They will live in Lordsburg.

Mrs Sarah Simpson, Lordsburg’s oldest pioneer citizen, celebrated her eighty sixth birthday at her East Railroad Avenue home on July 3.
