Seventy Five 4-H Students Compete in County Elimination

Seventy five 4 H participants competed at Hidalgo County Elimination held June 26 at Leedsburg High School and Cafetorium. Contestants showcased demonstrations in clothing, foods, general home economics, live stock, and public speaking with several blue ribbon wins and a team demonstration by Virden and Lordsburg entries advancing toward district.

Protest Upholds LL Game In Pony League Action

Craft Builders and CP lead the Little end Pony Leagues after Tuesday results. A June 27 game between Elke and Ranch House was called due to a protest found legal and will resume before the June 28 scheduled clash. Dockum’s Piggy Bank blanked the Sheriff 11-0 while CP defeated Whitewash 8-0. LULAC crushed the Optimists 15-5. Craft Builders and Trail Mote tied 2-2. CP outlasted LILAC 10-8. Piecy Bank beat Erie 5-1 and the Optimists beat the Sheriffs 6-5 as rain loomed.

McAlister Installed Lions Club President in Lordsburg

R B McAlister the Lordsburg High School principal was installed as president of the Lordsburg Lions Club at a Ladies Night event in El Charro Tuesday. Deputy Governor Edward F Schmidt installed officers including Gilbert Buvens first vice president Olen Monroe second vice president Homer Brooks third vice president Donald McGhee secretary treasurer Don Weekworth tail twister Harold Bishop Lion Jamer John Schimmel and Carl Lehman eight directors for two years with holdovers Weckworth and Rev W C Strickland remaining in their terms Bishop also serves as immediate past president.

First Annual Silver Golf Tourney Sunday

The Silver Golf Association hosts its first annual Seniors and Juniors Golf Tournament in Silver City at Scott Park on Sunday July 7. Seniors over 50 compete in two categories with 18 hole championship and a 9 hole handicap flow, starting 8:00 AM, while Juniors under 16 play 18 holes in their own Flight, teeing at 1:00 PM with entry fees paid.

Optimist Club Receives Charter in Lordsburg Banquet

The Lordsburg Optimist Club will receive its official charter from Optimist International at a banquet July 9 at the Legion Hall. Bill Short will serve as toastmaster for members, wives, and guests. The club organized with 29 members and joins Optimist International District 19 including West Texas and New Mexico.

Laboratory Clinical Positions Available at NIH Bethesda

The U S mission announces an examination for Laboratory and Clinical Technicians in Health Research with pay from 4565 to 6675 dollars a year. Most positions are at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland with openings in other agencies and parts of the country. Mary Dee Kipp Dies Following Proleasedness

Mrs. Mary Dee Kipp, 59, died Monday at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso after confinement since January. Funeral 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Rayter and Maxon chapel in El Paso with Rev. W. Strickland officiating. Born April 9, 1904 to John T. and Emma Muir, she was sole child of Southwestern New Mexico pioneers. She married Rex Kipp on March 4, 1923, of the El Paso Smelter engineering family. Rex is now Hidalgo County’s representative in the state legislature. Kipp helped found the Hidalgo County Historical Society and aimed to create a local museum. She attended El Paso School for Girls and pursued finishing school in Missouri and Tennessee. Active in Eastern Star and Providence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. (Continued on page 4).
