City Council to Hold Special Meetings on UDAG Request

Special City Council meetings will be held Friday January 27 and Tuesday January 31 to introduce and solicit input from the council audience regarding a UDAG loan request. A pre manufactured housing plant seeks to establish operations in Lordsburg.

Price Contract Renewal Denied By Lordsburg Board

Lordsburg School District Board split on renewing Dr. Joel Price. A three to two vote opposed renewal, with Mora Elbio Placencia voting yes and Williams Culberson voting no. Price remains in his current contract through June while the district plans to seek a replacement later.

City Council Reviews UDAG Applications and Victoria Homes

City Council held two special sessions to finalize input on Urban Development Action Grants for San Andres Corporation and Non-Metalic Mining. Victoria Homes proposed a new UDAG recipient, with plans for a 40,000 to 60,000 square foot plant producing one prefab structure daily for a four state market. Carl Marino said first year output would reach 260 units, creating at least 40 local jobs and boosting local contractors and material suppliers.

Free Tree Program Returns in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County commissioners restate a second phase of the Free Tree Program for the last week of February 1984. Two trees per eligible applicant will be distributed on a first come basis to not-yet-recipients, with 1984 applicants checked against the 1983 receiver list. Trees offered include narrow leaf mountain cottonwood and thornless honey locust, suitable for lawns and yards.

Mr. Marino shifted plans from Silver City to Lordsburg after assessing market transport and property. City council will hold initial hearings Friday January 27 at 6 p.m. and final hearings Tuesday January 31. All interested parties urged to attend.

Advertising funds pledged at Lordsburg business meeting

Lordsburg businessmen at LaCasita hear Mayor Hill report contact with Dave Sevieri head of the regional state advertising agency. Sevieri says $99,000 is available for promotional advertising, sourced from $18,000 city budget, $30,000 Ledgers Tax fund transfer, and $8,000 Chamber funds. State will match $45,000, with state agency oversight on all projects.

Motorists Urged to Renew February Vehicle Registrations

The Motor Vehicle Division of the Transportation Department reminds motorists with February expirations to renew by February 29, 1984. About 21,000 renewal notices were mailed January 18 for February. The mail order program lets motorists return the notice and fee in a provided self-addressed envelope to receive the February 1985 sticker by return mail. Check license plate decal or Certificate of Registration for expiration date and call 1-800-432-2013 or 827-7580 with questions.

Services Held Wednesday For Dorothy Myers

Dorothy B. Myers longtime Lordsburg resident died January 22 at her home. She was born September 8, 1914 in La Mesa New Mexico and married Floyd M. Myers in 1929 in Silver City. Survived by son Jim Myers and daughter Marjorie Livingston, siblings, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild. Funeral January 25 at Heather Chapel with Rev. Jesse Liles officiating. burial at Mt. View Cemetery. Pallbearers named.

Democratic party meeting to pick delegates in Hidalgo County

Olga Estrada Floyd announces a Democratic meeting on Thursday February 23 at 4 p m in the Hidalgo County Courthouse Commissioner's Meeting Room to select nine delegates for the state convention. The state convention is set for 10 a m Saturday March 3 in Albuquerque.
