Registration runs Thursday and Friday from 9 am to noon and 1 30 to 4 pm in the university field house, with evening class registration from 7 to 9 pm Thursday and Friday. Richard B. Rice publisher of The Lordsburg Liberal was elected president of the New Mexico Press Association at the winter convention in Albuquerque. Recreational Projects Established By Conservation Service
Don Williams reports that since 1962 the Soil Conservation Service has aided 34700 rural landowners and operators and started one or more income producing recreation enterprises. In 1966 thirty one New Mexico districts assisted with projects and all districts prepared lists of existing planned and potential recreational projects. The Animal and Virden Valley districts participated and a file of projects within 100 miles of Lordsburg is maintained.

New Minister Carl Yount Joins Lordsburg Church of Christ
Mr. Carl Yount becomes the new minister at the Church of Christ at 5th and Pyramid in Lordsburg. He arrives from Gila Bend Arizona after serving ministries in Missouri Minnesota and Arizona. His wife Frances and daughter Linda reside at 309 East 5th Street with six other children including two in the U.S. Navy.

Mrs Pearl Gauthier Receives Post Office Award
Mrs Pearl J Gauthier received a 500 dollar cash award and a Post Office Department Meritorious Award pin at the Animas Post Office. Postal Inspector J R Caraveo presented the honors after her 1965 holdup incident in which she grabbed a gun from a robber and escaped. The gunman was captured and later sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

Pvt Manuel Placencia Completes Training at Ft Bliss
Private Manuel Placencia, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Placencia of Lordsburg, completed eight weeks of air defense artillery training January 21 at the Army Air Defense School, Ft. Bliss. He learned firing and maintenance of air defense missiles, defense tactics, nuclear warhead function, electronics, and missile repair on NIKE and HAWK systems. HAWK missiles are on station in Vietnam.

M Homer Brooks Dies Tuesday
Melvin Homer Brooks 69 died early Tuesday in an El Paso hospital after Illness. He resided in Lordsburg for nearly 40 years and was active in church and fraternal groups. First Methodist Church has set up a memorial fund to honor his devoted service. contributions to "Brooks Memorial" may be mailed or brought to the church. A full obituary will appear next week in the Liberal.
