Sixth Wedding Anniversary Celebrated by Wade B Smith Couple

Mr and Mrs Wade B Smith marked their sixth wedding anniversary with a turkey dinner last Friday. Red white and pink carnations adorned the tables. Guests departed about ten o clock wishing the couple many happy anniversaries.

Angelus Oil Well Shows Gas as Drilling Reaches 1400 Feet

Deming news reports a heavy gas flow with some oil at the Angelus oil well as drilling continues beyond 1400 feet after water flow issues were resolved. Officials remain optimistic a commercial oil strike may follow once 2000 feet is reached.

Conway seeks dues for state educators association

John V. Conway state superintendent urged state teachers to pay dues to the state educational association so a committee can gather and present school affairs data to the legislature. Some viewed it as lobbying, but he cleared the air and impressed with his constructive approach. Lordsburg High students entertained the crowd last week, with hopes for a return visit.

Deming High School girls defeated Lordsburg High School 33 to 7 on Friday night. The Deming boys followed with a 45 to 27 win over Lordsburg in the same matchup at home.

Doctor and Undertaker Wed in New Mexico Ceremony

Last Saturday morning a doctor and an undertaker from Ammons arrived in Lordaburg with two young women. The couples, Dr Lincoln Howers and Miss Etta Hatfield of Tucson, and Undertaker Kees Mansfield and Miss Axine Way of Phoenix, returned in the evening as the two pairs were identified as Mrs Doctor and Mrs Undertaker. They were married at the Metho dist Parsonage after presenting the required documents per New Mexico statute, by Rev M O Williams.

Theater fundraiser nets $100 for society building

The Mar Theatre hosted an afateria dinner and supper to help the W.M.S. raise 2100 for their building fund. The event drew community support and highlighted the society’s ongoing efforts.
