Smalley Seeks Aid For Relocation From Highway Projects

Senator J. M Smalley proposes special legislation to aid displaced residents and businesses in Hidalgo Luna and Sierra Counties. The plan would reimburse moving and replacement housing costs, with possible additional payments to buy comparable dwellings. Applies to Lordsburg Truth or Consequences and other affected areas with 100 percent federal funding available until July 1 1970.

Mayor OKs utilities extension for Retirement Ranches site

After a Thursday conference with HADECO, Mayor Alan Koff signed a Jan. 9 council resolution pledging city utilities and a street extension to the Retirement Ranches nursing home site. Work is set to begin by April 1, per a HADECO spokesman. The Chamber’s Outstanding Citizens award went to James and Diane Culberson at the banquet for their musical outreach. State Police Officer Joe D. Ortega, longtime Lordsburg resident, is reassigned to Silver City, with Officer Jerry Wood taking his place in Lordsburg. The Ortegas will move after spring break.

Harvell Completes FBI Training and Moves to New Orleans

Charles A Harvell son of Mr and Mrs Leslie M Harvell completed a 15 week training period in Washington DC as an FBI agent and has been assigned to the New Orleans office His wife Penny and their three daughters remained here during his training and left Tuesday for their new home.

Voters in Lordsburg Municipal School District No 1 will decide on a 725000 bond to fund two new buildings and modernization of Central and other campuses. Plans prioritize a north side elementary, a junior high, upgraded facilities, safety, and added classrooms. Both spouses may vote with property ownership, on the same day and site as board elections but separate ballots.
