Rep Carter Kirk of Deming Republican outlines a school foundation program push and tax reforms. He represents Luna and Hidalgo Counties and calls for broader teacher support and career incentives, backed by committee roles and talks of a longer session and higher legislator pay.
Senator J. M Smalley proposes special legislation to aid displaced residents and businesses in Hidalgo Luna and Sierra Counties. The plan would reimburse moving and replacement housing costs, with possible additional payments to buy comparable dwellings. Applies to Lordsburg Truth or Consequences and other affected areas with 100 percent federal funding available until July 1 1970.
After a Thursday conference with HADECO, Mayor Alan Koff signed a Jan. 9 council resolution pledging city utilities and a street extension to the Retirement Ranches nursing home site. Work is set to begin by April 1, per a HADECO spokesman. The Chamber’s Outstanding Citizens award went to James and Diane Culberson at the banquet for their musical outreach. State Police Officer Joe D. Ortega, longtime Lordsburg resident, is reassigned to Silver City, with Officer Jerry Wood taking his place in Lordsburg. The Ortegas will move after spring break.
Charles A Harvell son of Mr and Mrs Leslie M Harvell completed a 15 week training period in Washington DC as an FBI agent and has been assigned to the New Orleans office His wife Penny and their three daughters remained here during his training and left Tuesday for their new home.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bonar, former Lordsburg school teachers, of Willcox, were visitors here during the week.

Funeral services for Mrs Edith Bradberry who died January 22 in Saf ford Ariz after an extended illness will be held Saturday January 25 at 2 p m at the Heather Mortuary. A full obituary will appear next week.
The LHS Lettermen's Club will sponsor an enchilada dinner and a dance for Homecoming on Saturday February 1. Dinner served from 1 to 6 p.m. in the cafetorium with takeout orders by calling 542 3263, followed by a dance after the games with Cobre.

Voters in Lordsburg Municipal School District No 1 will decide on a 725000 bond to fund two new buildings and modernization of Central and other campuses. Plans prioritize a north side elementary, a junior high, upgraded facilities, safety, and added classrooms. Both spouses may vote with property ownership, on the same day and site as board elections but separate ballots.
At the First National Bank of Lordsburg annual stockholders meeting last week James McCutchan was promoted from assistant vice president to vice president. All other officers and board members were reelected. Directors include Robert C. Martin chair Ralph Burton W LeRoss Jones Rex Kipp Jr and Darren E Richins. Other officers are Burton president Richins Fred Ewing Gladys Sapp and Hazel Amis cashier.
