Sheriff John P. Cavin tracked Bill Murphy from Weatherby ranch 20 miles south of town to near Tombstone and San Pedro river, where he arrested him. Murphy allegedly rode the horse 72 miles, traded for another, then continued. The stolen horse rests at a ranch 25 miles from Douglas. Murphy has pleaded guilty and a trial is not planned.
Hidalgo county committee initiates a broader celebration for the President's Birthday with numerous committees and plans for a gala event. The drive includes dances in Virden and Animas, a banquet, theatre party, athletic events, and a gala ball featuring a top orchestra. Finances will be distributed on a 6000 basis with half remaining in the county for assistance in fighting infantile paralysis.
State Police John Bradford gives Virden drivers notice he will be there Monday January 29 to test and renew operators license. He will be stationed at Thywer von's Store between 9 am and 8 pm.
