Lordsburg Man Arrested on Counterfeit Money Charge
A Lordsburg resident, Bob Green, 51, was arrested Friday by Secret Service agents for possession of counterfeit money. He faced a $3,000 bond after a Monday hearing and was in federal custody in Albuquerque. Investigators found no evidence he printed the bills at his home. the notes were $20s from a 1977 Boston issue, circulated in small quantities.

Ballinger Appeal May Take One Year
The Gene Ballinger case in the New Mexico State Appeals Court is not expected to be decided for at least a year. Ballinger, convicted of second degree murder for the shooting death of Warren Uecker, a Pine Cienega Ranch partner and Ballinger stockholder, now resides in Florida and reports weekly to Sixth District Attorney Ralph Ellinwood.

Two Convicted In Deming Jury Trials In January
In Deming New Mexico six district court juries convicted Armando Willie Aguilar for possession of marijuana and distributing marijuana to a minor. George A Cortez was found guilty of trafficking in cocaine distributing marijuana to a minor and receiving stolen property valued over 100 dollars. Cortez received multi year sentences and faces a habitual criminal hearing within 30 days.

Crime Stoppers Seeks Community Support in 1982

New Signs Welcome Visitors In Lordsburg Area
Green and blue roadside signs advertise gas food and lodging along Motel Drive in Lordsburg also known as Railroad Avenue or Front Street. The Downtown Business Association led the project, disbanded in 1979, and locals continued to push until completion as the only complete sign system in New Mexico. Bill Collins credits business gains from the signs, especially the East Motel Drive sign, with descriptions of the 14 mile stretch of signs from the eastbound off ramp listing gas food lodgings campgrounds motels restaurants modern stations and a final overhead arrow for East Motel Drive.
