Lordsburg Election Set For Board Seats February 2

Lordsburg Municipal Board of Education election to fill two six year terms will be held Tuesday February 2. Incumbents Harber J. Heather and Frank M. Bowman seek re election and nominations close January 23 at 6 00 p.m. Voting locations include Central School Gymnasium City Hall and Virden School.

Survey Of Needs Scheduled January 18

Plans are completed for a survey of vocational and technical needs in Lordsburg. The meeting is on Monday January 18 at 7 30 pm in the High School Auditorium. A project leader from New Mexico State University will explain purposes and answer questions to clarify the survey aims for local business representatives.

Bradford Named State Police Chief

Capt. John R. Bradford of Albuquerque was named chief of the New Mexico State Police to succeed K. K. Miller who requested relief and transfer. Bradford, long associated with Lordsburg and Albuquerque districts, will assume duties Feb 1 as Miller returns to captain and heads communications due to health reasons.

Baptist Church Dedication Set for January 24

The First Baptist Church announces the dedication of its expanded facilities for Sunday January 24. Former pastors and members are invited to attend with Dr. Harry P. Stagg as main speaker. Open house and guided tours follow, with refreshments for all community guests.

Ornelas Bound Over For Narcotic Charge

Alfonso Ornelas pleaded not guilty to possession of marijuana before Justice of the Peace Ned Merrell and was bound over for district court after a preliminary hearing. Bond set at 5000, challenged by attorney E Forrest Sanders of Las Cruces as too high. Ornelas and Enrique Mejias were arrested in the north end. a marijuana package was found in the car. Mejias preliminary hearing pending. Cr Nunn appointed to defend Mejias.

Two Hidalgo Students Receive Scholarships

Gerald Thygerson of Virden New Mexico and Robert Dill of Rodeo New Mexico earned Las Cruces Production Credit Association scholarships at New Mexico State University. Richard B. Jewkes presented the $250 awards for exemplary scholastic records major study preference leadership potential and financial need. Preference is for range management majors from Dona Ana Luna Hidalgo Sierra and Otero counties. Thygerson and Dill are sons of Antone Thygerson and C D Dill.

Lordsburg High School Mavericks toppled Animas Panthers 89 48 in the local gym after a 24 10 first quarter lead. James Murray led with 19 points, Nick Granada 16, George Rodriguez 14, Charles Walter 11. Jack Lasher led Panthers. B game 52 44 win for Lordsburg.

Christian World Religions Panel Slated By Lordsburg Club

The Lordsburg Federated Womens Club will host a January 18 1965 program at 7 30 p m in the clubhouse aimed at locating God in today’s world. Clergy from all Lordsburg churches will discuss Christianity Communism Islam Buddhism Shintoism and secularism with moderator Jack Morgan chairing.
