Workshop at Lordsburg High aims at financial aid help

Lordsburg High School guidance hosts a financial aid workshop on Thursday January 19 at 7 p.m. in the library for seniors and parents to learn how to complete aid forms used by colleges and tech institutes. Charles Kelly of Western New Mexico University leads the session.

Western New Mexico Telephone opens Lordsburg office

Western New Mexico Telephone Company re opens the Lordsburg office on Main Street offering service calls and bill payment with hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and a lunch break from noon to 12 30. Independently owned by Jack Keen of Silver City, with main offices in Cliff, the new operation adds Curtis Williams and Bobbi Williams and their family to handle services. Williams moved from Deming to Lordsburg with their children Truitt 18 Monique 16 and Trent 14, two attending Lordsburg High School, while Curtis a 28 year Mountain Bell veteran began working for Keen in October 1983. David Rowell and Linette moved from Glenwood Reserve to assist, as the company lists exchanges in Cliff Glenwood Luna Reserve Datil Magdalena Quemada and Lordsburg. Local office number is 542-3518.

Hidalgo County Indigent Fund Cited at Regular Meeting

Hidalgo County Commissioners held a routine January session with no major issues. Chairman Bill Collins noted a $24,000 indigent fund, reading a budget-cut resolution tied to a mill levy voters must approve. He proposed disbanding the indigent board, which never became operational, as nine routine resolutions were approved, including open meeting act pledges, precinct parity, and a $7742 EMS grant.

Between November 25 and 26, 1983 unknown burglars entered a home behind 428 Gale Street Lordsburg New Mexico and stole several coins. Hidalgo County voters and candidates must meet strict deadlines for party changes and registration ahead of the 1984 elections.
