W. J. Burruss Passes Away In Tucson

Word reached Mrs. Robert Martin on Monday January 4 that W. J. Burruss of Tucson has died. Burruss will be remembered in Lordsburg as a longtime railroad employee who lived here for many years.

Army Reservist Salinas Completes Training at Fort Bliss

Army Pvt. Manuel L. Salinas 21 son of Mrs. Josephine De La Garza Lordsburg New Mexico completed his final phase of six months active training under the Reserve Forces Act program at Fort Bliss Texas on December 19 He trained as a Nike Ajax guided missile crewman and will serve with Battery C 716th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion Army National Guard in Lordsburg Salinas was a 1957 Lordsburg High School graduate and attended New Mexico State University.

Kerr Appointed Vice President at McCann Erickson

Jack F Kerr son of Mr and Mrs Earle Kerr has been named vice president of McCann Erickson Inc in Los Angeles. He was raised in Lordsburg and graduated from local high school. Kerr joined the agency in 1967 and the announcement came from David J Hopkins, manager of the LA office.

Frank Romero Pleads Guilty in Marijuana Case

Frank Romero 19 pleads guilty to unlawful possession of marijuana before Justice of the Peace C L Brown. Six Inches of Snow for Lordsburg to Date

New Year's Eve around 9 p.m. soft white flakes began and by daylight the ground was white. Elders say it may be Lordsburg’s biggest snow since January 21, 1949, when 12 inches fell. Three thousand people were stranded in 1949 as motels, hotels, homes, and businesses opened to them. The six inch figure excludes snow after 9 p.m. as the gauge was closed.

Mrs Claude Fuller hosted a Christmas recital featuring her music class. She gifted each pupil a silver dollar and the class presented her with a jewelry set in appreciation. Afterward Angela Martinez assisted with refreshments for the attendees.
