Work on Highway 80 to Begin in February
Governor Arthur Seligman receives confirmation from State Highway Engineer Eccles that Federal Aid Project 87 on Highway 80 from Lordsburg to Animal Lake may start advertising for bids after December meetings. If authority is granted, bids would be opened around January 20 and work could start early February.

Palace Theater to inaugurate three Saturday night films
Starting this week the Palace Theatre will show three motion picture programs each Saturday night with a Thursday and Friday program, a Bargain Day Saturday running 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. followed by a dance. Mrs Josephine Moore Smith wife of James W Smith of Santa Rosa and sister of Mrs J L Augustine died at her home Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Augustine traveled next morning to Santa Rosa for the funeral. Cadets Junior Augustine Billy Lewis and Alton Warren accompanied them as far as Roswell.

Alleged Filling Station Bandit Held For Trial
A. J. Foster charged with robbing a Hidalgo County filling station near midnight Friday was bound over to district court on $700 bond. Dell Winters testified the bandit obtained 79.09 dollars from a bag as night cashier closed. Sheriff Oscar Allen led the arrest and Foster acted as his own lawyer at the preliminary hearing.

Destructive Fire devastates Lordsburg business district
A Friday blaze in Lordsburg destroyed the rear half of the Cueto grocery building and damaged the Liberal office, Railroad Club, and Vendome Hotel area. Total losses near 40 000 with grocery stock 12 000 and Liberal equipment about 10 000. insurance partially covers several buildings. Firefighters contained the flames after extensive efforts.

Burke Turner visited Lordsburg last week aiding George Hoskins in moving several carloads of cattle. Hoskins shipped over 700 head from the Lordsburg stock yards to California markets, spending more than a month in the southwestern district of New Mexico purchasing thousands of head. The Lordsburg shipment concludes his district dealings for now as cattle there averaged about 12 to 14 dollars per head this fall.
