Armijo wins land commissioner post defeating Reinheardt and Oberg as the legislature begins a new term. Maloney becomes attorney general after Witt and Standley backed him in the primary. Tackett moves to the State Supreme Court as Noble joins the high court. Abraham becomes corporation commissioner, while Kornegay takes state treasurer and plans study of permanent funds. Gov Cargo starts his second term with tax, education, and constitutional issues on the agenda.

Address Report Cards Available At Post Offices

Mr. Howard L. Adams, district director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in El Paso, estimates over 67,500 aliens will file address reports in January. Last January 68,014 aliens complied. Non citizens except diplomats and certain international officials must report annually. absences must file within ten days of return. Post offices and immigration offices will distribute cards starting January 2, 1969. noncompliance can lead to serious consequences.

Dee Hall Dies in Dallas Hospital in Dec 30

Funeral services were held Tuesday December 31 for W. Dee Hall former Lordsburg city clerk and businessman at Carrollton Texas. He died in a Dallas hospital on December 30. Survivors include his wife Katy of Dallas two sons Lt Commander Thomas D. Hall based at the U S Naval Weapons Center in Pagadena California and Jack Hall with an oil company in Libya North Africa a brother Mae Hall of Carrollton a sister Mrs Katherine Sessions of Washington D C and several grandchildren.

Former Resident To Serve On Bar Association Board

Four former Lordsburg residents and a Lordsburg High School graduate were elected the first woman on the Maricopa County Bar Association board at a Hotel Westward Ho luncheon in Phoenix. Frances Bumsted Mitchell, house counsel for Transamerica Title and Trust Co., will join the five member board and meet monthly to address county attorney matters and liaison duties between county and state. She has worked on property titles across the state and pursued night courses in painting and semantics while knitting in her spare time.

Charges Filed On Robbery Suspect Edward Martinez

Edward Martinez, 36, charged in magistrate court with two counts of robbery tied to assaults at two bars on December 23 and December 25. Victims reported losses over 500 dollars. Suspect, a former Lordsburg resident now in Los Angeles, was arrested by Sheriff Leroy McCarty. The Elks Club building loss totaled about 350 dollars after a New Year’s Eve entry.

Widows of Veterans to Get Education Aid in New VA Plan

About 1077 New Mexico widows of deceased veterans and 1014 wives of totally disabled veterans will receive VA education assistance starting December 1, 1968. Payments are 130 dollars monthly for full time training, 95 dollars for three quarters, and none for half time. Eligibility lasts eight years to complete training, with future widows having eight years. No contact with VA needed for details. explanatory material will be mailed with DIC and disability checks.

County Officials Sworn In By Judge Hodges

Hidalgo County officials elected for the ensuing two year term were sworn into office last Friday by District Judge Norman Hodes in the district courtroom. Newly elected officials taking the oath included Sheriff Laery McCarty Clerk Emma J Scofield Treasurer Julia K Fisher and Magistrate C L Brown. McCarty begins his third term and Scofield’s deputy is Jack Eli. Other appointees include precincts leaders and the reappointed officers, with several long serving deputies continuing in their posts.
