Lordsburg Volunteer Fire Department Adopts New Pumper
The Lordsburg department ordered a g00 gallon per minute pumper last Friday with added equipment funded by a fire protection fund supported by insurance companies. The unit features foam proportioners and is classified as acceptable by Fire Underwriters. Fire Chief Har Bishop leads a volunteer force including Captains Harry Ga and Victor Reay and 4 other members.

Police Car Involved in Tuesday Intersection Collision
A city police car driven by Harvey Martin was in an accident at Sixth and Shakespeare Tuesday around 4 35 p m. with a car driven by Mrs Mary Jacobs. Mrs Jacobs traveled west on Sixth while Martin was north on Shakespeare. Mrs Martin was treated at a hospital after the crash and released. Sheriff Eb Jackson investigated the collision.

Service Station Operator Faces Fraud Charges
Joseph Offutt a Lordsburg service station operator faces two counts of obtaining property with intent to cheat and forgery for allegedly forging the name of C R Lewis on a Shell Oil Co invoice. Preliminary hearing set today in Justice of the Peace C L Brown's court after bond of 2500 on each count was posted. Offutt has run the Shell station on Railroad Ave Animas Ave since last summer, succeeding Roe Hallmark.

Emma Contreras Hospitalized After Gas Explosion
An explosion at Mrs. Emma Contreras apartment at 5 45 am Wednesday injured Mrs Contreras with severe burns to face arms and hands and sent her to Hidalgo County Hospital. Her three year old granddaughter Jesse Martinez was released after examination showed no injuries. The apartments are owned by Franklin Hood and Basil Millican investigated the blast as a gas leak under the floor.

City Council Approves Industrial Gas Rates and Delinquent-Account Policy
The council approved an ordinance to withhold payments to entities with delinquent water gas or occupation license bills and to deduct debts from payments. The Lordsburg Lordsburg Ground Observer Corps monthly meeting heard M Sgt Albert Carter of the Tucson Filter Center report 234 posts and 1452 volunteers with 19980 observer posts nationwide 618 posts on 24 hour duty and 15776 volunteers until Jan 1. An ADC order moved 24 filter centers to ready reserve effective Jan 1 and signaled border and coast coverage. A special ward was given to Leslie Harvell for work on the GOC post tower. Wings were awarded to Ena Williams Ed Wright Cora Simonton Ima Fairly Ted Hiaas and Grant. Carter showed films of bomb tests and explosions. Next meeting Feb 20 at City Hall.
