Coronado Theatre Opens With Parade and Gala

A grand opening Tuesday in Lordsburg featured a parade from the high school to the Coronado Theatre on Railroad Avenue. The event included a bicycle decorating contest, a car caravan, and a crowd of spectators. The two shows of Romance of Rosy Ridge drew guests and out of town visitors, with a post show reception in the lounge and floral decorations signaling a successful, celebratory night.

Boy Scout Meeting_with Flag Ceremony in Lordsburg

The Boy Scouts hold a meeting on Saturday evening February 7 at the County Court Yard at Sundown. The event features a flag lowering with a firing squad from the American Legion and bugler from the local high school. Citizens urged to attend followed by games contests and a meal supplied by Lions and K P sponsoring institutions.

Free Chest X Ray Survey Seeks Tuberculosis Detection

New Mexico Department of Public Health and the county Tuberculosis Association bring a free chest X ray survey to Lordsburg Virden and Rodeo School areas this week. The service runs 3 to 6 pm at the Womens Club on Feb 6 7 9 10 11 and at Virden Church Feb 16 9 to 12 and 2 to 4 pm. Feb 18 events at Rodeo School and Animal School include 9 to 12:30 pm and 3 to 5 pm. Open to all 15 plus and to younger exposed contacts, with family groups accommodated. Chest X ray is key to early TB detection and community health.

Hatch Plays Here Friday Afternoon

A misprint on the basketball schedule lists Hatch at 2:00 p m Feb 4 instead of Feb 6. There is no preliminary game and season tickets will be honored. After the afternoon contest the Mavericks travel to Deming for an 8:00 p m game where Hatch will face Virden.

Gordon Kimbley Dies From Car Wreck Near Lordsburg

Gordon Kimbley 30 owner of the Shell Central gas station in Lordsburg died from a basal skull fracture after a car crash 35 miles southwest of Lordsburg on Highway 60. The Sunday accident left four hurt including Gene Noce and Miss Allene Nard. Funeral services were held at Heather Mortuary with American Legion and Knights of Pythias assisting.
