Chamber of Commerce Banquet Monday in Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce announced a membership banquet for Monday evening February 16 at 7 30 in the Palador behind the Railroad Club. Tickets cost 150 and are sold by several people or the Chamber office phone 491. The event will feature W J Hooten editor of the El Paso Times and Junell of KROD with a film on communist activities.

Welcome Signs Erected At Lordsburg City Limits

New Welcome to Lordsburg signs were painted by Mattox and funded by J A Foster of the First National Bank. The signs read Welcome to Lordsburg Speed 20 M P H and replace an older warning greeting as the town seeks to attract tourists and boost prosperity.

Hazel Harrison Concert Tops Lordsburg Tour Stop

Hazel Harrison, world renowned concert pianist, brings her tour to Lordsburg High School Auditorium on March 3 at 8 p m under the Lordsburg Womans Club. She credits mentors Grainger and Petri and will perform Weber Ganz Bach Busoni Chopin Liszt Rachmaninoff Jelebinsky with a push to sell out the show.

Lordsburg PTA to Hear Special Agent Suran Thursday

Lordsburg Parents Teachers Association and guests will hear Special Agent in Charge R. Suran of El Paso speak on parent teacher responsibility to the child on February 19 at 7 30 p m in the local high school auditorium. He will also address the student assembly that afternoon. Everyone is invited to hear him.

Pinochle Club Hosts Social at Lunt Apartments

Jr. and Mrs. Bud Weiland hosted the Pinochle Club at their Lunt Apartments home this week. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nard, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Craddock, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Richards, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kimbley, Dr. and Mrs. Karl Fife and Mr. and Mrs. Wiel.

World Day of Prayer Observed at Methodist Church

The W S C S will observe World Day of Prayer on Friday February 13 at 2 30 p m in the Methodist church. Other churches will join the program and all community ladies are invited to attend.

Banquet Scene at Associational YW A Meeting

The Young Women's Auxiliary of the Baptist Church hosted a banquet in the annex. Attendees from Deming included M. O. Fewell and Ruth Wilcox among others, from Silver City Jeanne Cogwood and Rene Riddle, and from Lordsburg Gloria Gass and Louise Rouse plus several more.

Huge success for Lordsburg free chest x ray survey

The Free Chest X-Ray Survey in Lordsburg New Mexico set a city record with 1 405 residents screened at the Womans Club. The Hidalgo County Tuberculosis Association and local groups led fundraising publicity and organization with notable support from Mrs A L Green Mrs Herbert Bryant Donald Johnson Glen Dorsett Wesley Freeburg Mrs George Schmidt and Mrs Howard Phillips. Dr Leonid Zavadsky praised the community effort and thanked all participants.

Mrs F McWhorter Involved In Accident

Mrs Freeman McWhorter suffered a head cut and shock after a 1940 Hudson sedan driven by Joe Miller of Pasadena struck her car two miles east of Lordsburg on highway 80. Both drivers were treated at Lordsburg Hospital with the injured passenger confined.

Pythians Host Valentine Party at Western Star Temple

Western Star temple No. 11 held a Valentine party after the regular meeting. A Hearts game determined prizes for men and women with Mr. Phillips of Separ winning high prize and Mrs. Mertice Brooks taking the women’s prize. Awards also went to Chip Pierce and Mrs. R T Bonar, plus Mrs Jack Kirby for the oldest coin. Committee in charge included Miss Ima Fairly and several officers. Refreshments of cherry pie and coffee followed. March committee listed.

Public Health Team Salutes Lordsburg Visit

The New Mexico Department of Public Health cites Mr. Joseph LaRocco chief technician and Mr. Celestino Lucero assistant technician praising the Lordsburg visit. It notes pleasure from collaboration and thanks for warm hospitality and enthusiastic cooperation.

Boy Scout Week Program a Success

We thank the sponsoring institutions the Lions Club and the Knights of Pythias the Robert Swan American Legion Post No. 30 for the well commanded firing squad and the school for the Butler. After the flag lowering at the County Court House refreshments were served at the Knights of Pythias hall to thirty three people. Guests included Wesley Freeburg Parney Gardner and other Scout leaders and Girl Scouts. Scout Troop No. 120 and No. 121 hosted the event with G H Dorsett Carl Longenbaugh and Jesus Estrada among the leaders.
