Deadline Near For City Candidate Filing and Voter Registration

Voter registration deadline is Monday February 5 for the March 5 municipal election. New registrants must apply at the County Clerk's courthouse by 5 00 p m to vote. Candidate filing closes the same date and time at City Hall. Melvin Phillips is the only filed candidate for Ward Three alderman.

HUD Grants 8064 For Lordsburg Planning Effort

Secretary Robert C. Weaver announces an $8064 grant under the Urban Planning Assistance Program to support Lordsburg growth planning. The grant, payable to the state, covers two thirds of costs with $4032 local funds, financing 19 months of base maps land use analysis and development measures including zoning rules.

Lordsburg Mavericks Plan February Homecoming Activities

The Lordsburg Mavericks announce Homecoming events on Saturday February 3 with a 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. barbecue plate at $1.50. Proceeds fund athletic department needs. The 8:00 p.m. game vs Hatch, 6:30 p.m. B team kickoff, and a 12:00 a.m. dance after a halftime Queen reveal featuring Miss Shirley Hitson and court members. Explosion at S P Pipelines Facility Near Lordsburg

A Tuesday explosion at Southern Pacific Pipelines near Lordsburg sparked a fire, ruptured a building end, and black smoke rose 200 feet. Two pipelines carried jet fuel and premium gasoline. no injuries were reported as the fire was extinguished by 2 30 pm after isolating three miles of each line.

California Man Killed As Car Overturns

A California man, Crecencio Moralez Gutierrez, 41, of Compton, was killed when his car left U S 80 about 14 miles north of Rodeo. The vehicle overturned and Gutierrez was thrown about 75 feet and died near 4 30 am en route to Las Cruces to see his ill mother. He was born in Salem, New Mexico.

Lordsburg Post 30 First to Attain 1968 Quota

Lordsburg Post No. 30 was first in the state to reach its 1968 membership quota by November 1. Commander W. W. Scott said the quota was met by September 15 with 72 paid members, 110.7 percent of a 65 member goal. The Auxiliary reported 100 percent or more of its 1968 target.
