Richard McCarty Dies in One Car Crash Near Thousand Oaks
Richard LeRoy McCarty 20 died when his car left the road and overturned in a one car accident near Thousand Oaks California on Monday morning. Funeral services are set for Friday at Heather Chapel with military honors by Lordsburg National Guard. He was returning to Point Mugu Naval Air Missiles Test Center after a Christmas furlough and was a Navy recruit chief petty officer. He was born September 30 1946 at Las Cruces and was a 1963 Lordsburg High School graduate. He is survived by parents two brothers a sister and grandparents. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Redrock Completes Phone Service With Local Labor
Redrock's long awaited telephone service is now active after Mountain States Telephone Co connected the final lines. The project used a cooperative approach with residents laboring and contributing equipment while the company supplied materials. Leslie Harvells Hurt In California Crash
Mr and Mrs Leslie Harvell were injured when their car overturned near Arlington California while trying to avoid a collision with a vehicle ahead. Harvell reinjured his back. both were bruised and shaken. Their car was a total loss. They returned to Newport Beach after treatment.

The Pacific Western Land Company bought the Bichl Estate Federal Grazing allotment at Redrock New Mexico. J. W. Young, District Manager of the Bureau of Land Management announced the 665 acre grazing rights transfer. Ben Ormand Jr of Silver City is company president.

Lee Way to Acquire Texas Arizona Freight Authority Rights
Fred Flusche announces that the Interstate Commerce Commission approved Lee Way Motor Freight Inc to purchase part of Texas Arizona Motor Freight’s operating authority. Gila Flood Damages Farms and Bridge Near Redrock
Heavy rains and mountain snow swelled the Gila River to flood stage isolating Redrock residents. The south end of the Redrock bridge was damaged and the north-end approach washed out. by Friday crossing on foot was possible and the approach was repaired for vehicle traffic by Tuesday. Rodney Newton of the Lordsburg Soil Conservation Service said farm lands in Bedrock and Virden suffered extensive damage and a Silver City meeting with county commissioners was planned to discuss repairs and flood prevention. Ironically new telephone service reached one river side while the other lacked it. Coolidge Dam was not yet at expected levels as Salt River projects overflowed, complicating Phoenix valley conditions.

Fletcher Anthrum Awtrey died December 25 at the Victoria Land and Cattle Company Ranch south of Animas. He was born November 16, 1902 in Antlers Oklahoma and homesteaded in Animas Valley. Funeral services were at Cloverdale graveside with Rev. Don Baker officiating. Survivors include his widow and eleven children with several siblings listed.
