Retirement of C Fuller as Water Superintendent in Lordsburg

The City of Lordsburg announces the retirement of C C Fuller from the post of Water Superintendent. His resignation takes effect at the mid month city council meeting on December 20. City Attorney H Vearle e commends Fuller for twenty one years of service since 1951 plus prior work since 1933. A farewell gift is planned and Fuller contemplates his future.

Pacific Train Schedule Changes for January Ninth

Southern Pacific to save passenger train schedule beginning January 9. Train 43 to be dis ed and replaced by 39 the Imperial. Chicago to west coast transcontinental train will have diner Pullmans and cars. Train 39 to arrive Lordsburg 8:00 AM and depart 10:55 AM. Train 6 remains unchanged. Mr. Boyd Stiles of El Centro visited Burke Stiles and family on Sunday while en route to visit relatives.

Mavericks Draw Cliff In Basketball Tournament

Six teams enter the New Mexico Western College Invitational to be held in Silver City on Friday and Saturday January 7 and 8. Lordsburg meets Cliff to open the event at 7 pm followed by Virden vs Deming at 8 40 pm. The winners meet Silver City and Hurley in Saturday games with finals and consolation on Saturday evening.

Needy Families Receive Baskets From Elks Club

The local Elks Club sponsored seventeen baskets of food and toys for needy families at Christmas. Baskets included canned goods fresh fruit vegetables bread and more. Spencer and Son Furniture donated some toys. A photo shows members with baskets and toys in front of them delivering on Christmas Day.

Mavericks win tight bracket games in double OT and late foul

The Mavericks defeated both bracket opponents in close contests. They beat the Colts by two after two overtimes and edged the Cliff team with a successful foul shot after the whistle. The upper bracket appears open as six evenly balanced quintets compete in a likely six team tournament.

Boy Fatally Burned in North Hernandez Barn Fire

Ernesto Diaz nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Antonio Diaz of Monte California and grandson of Mr and Mrs Pasqual Diaz died after a fire in a barn north of Hernandez Grocery Wednesday morning A lighted match ignited an alderate box of excelsior causing a blaze that trapped Ernesto as he and other boys fled He was rushed to the local hospital but died later according to Liberal reporting

A front page correction states Nelson E. Roberts passed a worthless check. The amount was misreported as one hundred dollars. the actual amount was ten dollars. The Liberal clarifies the record for accuracy.

Christmas Lighting Awards Honor Local Homes

Judges awarded cash prizes on December 23 for Christmas home lighting in Lordsburg. Florence Lawrence received $10, Harold Scofield and Harber Heather earned second and third place. Honorable mentions went to Cassie Martinez Jack Spencer Ed Wright and Claude Speer.

Red Cross Board of Directors Meeting Summary

A Red Cross meeting at the Hiltongo Hotel Lounge on December 16 was led by County Chairman William Titmas. The home service report shows rising aid requests in November and December with 14 November cases and 27 December cases totaling $40.82 in aid. From July 1 to November 30, total expenditures reached $292.64.
