Special to the Liberal reports Hidalgo County Social Security retirement benefits rise with an 11 percent 1974 increase. Local annual benefits total about $816,000 for 607 recipients, up from $526,000 in 1970, while the tax rate stays 5.85 percent and the wage base climbs from $10,800 to $13,200.
On December 6, 1973 Sarah W. Garvin filed application A-35-S-2 with the State Engineer to appropriate 447.9 acre feet per year of supplemental shallow groundwater from the Animas Valley Basin by drilling a well in Section 9 Township 26 South Range 20 West for irrigation of 149.3 acres. Combined appropriation limited to 3 acre feet per acre per year. Objections must be filed in triplicate with S. E. Reynolds within ten days after last publication.
