New Ambulance Arrives for Hidalgo County Response
A brand new ambulance arrived in Lordsburg funded by a federal grant through the State Highway Traffic Safety Commission. The vehicle, built like a truck, seats four plus one, carries two oxygen tanks, and features air conditioning, heating, dual sirens, two spotlights, and wide rear and side doors for stretchers.

First baby of 1974 born in Lordsburg
Mr and Mrs Ruben Murillo of Lordsburg welcomed their son Ruben Jr the year’s first baby. Dr R C Wille delivered the newborn at 10 25 am January 1 at Hillcrest General Hospital. The Murillos are employed by Brown Construction Company working in Lordsburg. This is the couple’s first child.

Investors Purchase Retirement Ranch in Lordsburg
A group of 20 investors led by Sunshine Haven Inc. bought the Retirement Ranch from HADECO with a $1 land transfer and $200,000 raised to pay part of an $800,000 bank note. The facility, which closed last March, aims to reopen in February as a modern elderly care ranch with a four-member board and operating capital.

Animas Schools District Granted Budget Increase
At a Dec 20 1973 budget hearing in the office of Harry Wagaker the Animas School was granted a 10257 budget increase based on 24 additional students above the 40 day average daily membership. The extra funds fund one more elementary teacher and two instructional aides. Attendees included George Jackson Jr Bill Godfrey Don Burton and Tom Pace. Applications are open for an elementary teacher for 5th or 6th grade and an aide for kindergarten starting March 4 1974.
