Koogler urges Virden and Red Rock farmers to plant only one cotton variety, preferably Acala, to keep seed pure and graded. He says mixed lengths reduce buyers’ pay and that cooperation with the State College could secure seed and machinery, improving prices and market stability.
The former Lordsburg resident Maude Werdeman writes Elizabeth Gammon from Jamestown California in December 1923. She describes holly shipments, red berries in the hills, and the historical Mother Lode era tied to Bert Harte and Mark Twain country. She notes Mark Twain’s cabin and local landmarks.

Miss Mildred Trimble underwent a major operation and is recovering. Miss Louise Wallace Spanish teacher is recovering well after surgery. Deputy Sheriff Tom Gee is receiving medical treatment and expected to be out soon. R D Thompson of Muskogee Oklahoma is here for medical treatment.
Kelso section foreman for Lordsburg yards, proud to have earned one hundred dollars in cash for maintaining the banner section in the S P railway district last year. Hidalgo County Marine Back Home Walter McFarland, son of Judge 3 G McFarland, of Animas, has been honorably discharged from the navy and is at home with his parents.
A holiday greeting from Mr. and Mrs. B. B. O. describes warm cheer and goodwill as Christmas days approach. The speaker, writing from California, sends festive wishes to a friend in a concise verse suitable for a personal note.

J A Rountree director general of the Bankhead National Highway and United States Good Roads Association returned to Birmingham after a six week tour of the Bankhead Highway main line through New Mexico Texas Arkansas and Tennessee He traveled over two thousand miles delivering forty addresses to business and civic groups and gathering official data for a federal report to back federal takeover of the highway.
October report details progress on the Old Spanish Trail across the Western Department routes through New Mexico Arizona Southern California and Imperial Valley. It lists paved and gravel segments from El Paso to Deming Lordsburg and the New Mexico line with miles completed and surface types.

The S. P. Board of Inquiry led by Wm. Wilson found December 17 at 5:50 a.m. that wreck damage totaled $7,160 to equipment plus $100 to rack and £260 to clearing, with no content damage or casualties. Conductor C. Bryant was deemed wholly responsible.
Washington D C Dec 22 Senator H O Bur sum of New Mexico opened the sixty eighth Senate with the general Pensions bill to provide pensions for Civil Indian and Spanish American veterans and widows He also introduced 27 private pension measures and a bill to retire disabled emergency army officers The session saw 575 Senate bills and 2807 House bills introduced including private measures He met American Legion leaders and President Cool ige for talks on reclamation and irrigation interests.
M. P. Walker and family shared Christmas with W. F. Ritter and family in El Paso. Three Walker girls and three Ritter boys participated in festive greetings and celebrations.
Mrs Anna Van Meter died at her mother’s home on the Barnesville pike after a yearlong illness from sugar diabetes. Survived by mother Mrs Fionna Phillis husband Isaac Van Meter daughter Phillis seven siblings and three sisters. Funeral held Tuesday in Smiths Chapel cemetery Center township MecConnellsville Ohio with the funeral attendance of relatives and friends.
Hon J P Barnes former New Mexico Supreme Court justice and Mrs Barnes visit Albuquerque to enjoy Christmas with daughter Mrs Frank Coon and family. Stanley Coon travels from Duncan for the occasion.

Junior's sixth birthday was celebrated Saturday with a large guest list including Harbor, Dora Ellen Heather, Julia Eten, Stephen Walter Hiechfteld, Billy Landry, Jack Kerr, Ruth Fisher, Pauline Austin, Metvor Lamb, Von, George and Aliee Jones, and others. Special guest J. L. Wells attended with Margaret Winslow assisting. A niece dinner followed and Junior received many presents.

A carbide explosion at Anita No 2 injured K L Trendt who suffered facial burns on Christmas night. Fire crews responded and secured the area as investigators began evaluating the incident.
