A reunion for the classes of 1947 1948 and 1949 at Lordsburg High School will be held December 27 at 7 00 p m at the Elks Lodge. Alumni from the 40s and 50s are invited and asked to bring a covered dish.
SBA release shows disaster relief loans approved for Hidalgo County from Feb 1 1978 to Dec 2 total 2 041 000 with 15 Hidalgo loans and 748 approved nationwide across 14 New Mexico counties. County totals include Chaves 11 875 600 and Roosevelt 8 878 000 among others.
Longtime Hidalgo County businessman and newly elected County Commissioner Foy E Powell died Sunday at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso. Born May 24 1914 in Gatesville Texas he had lived in Lordsburg since 1933. Funeral services will be held Wednesday Dec 24 at 2 pm at Heather Funeral Home in Lordsburg. Powell was to assume office for District I on Dec 31.
Deming Hidalgo County deputies arrested Charles Holden 18 Buckeye Arizona and Troy Wood 20 Avondale Arizona after a Tuesday night armed robbery at the Deming Pizza Hut. A chase ended near Lordsburg on I 10 with a vehicle search and cash seizure. The suspects allegedly worked at Arizona Pizza Hut locations.
A contract was awarded to Silver Vista Construction Company of Silver City NM to build a bowling alley in Playas. Construction is expected to begin in early January with site utilities already installed to site boundaries after trenches dug in November and December. Parents are urged to keep children away from the construction zone for safety due to machinery and heavy equipment.
Lordsburg Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce elected officers at the December 11 1980 meeting. Felix Gauthier was named President Jim Dearman First Vice President and Beverly Atkinson Second Vice President. The board supported a chamber travel agency to be housed in the office pending terms. A calendar of events will be published in the Lordsburg Liberal with weekly submissions from the chamber manager John Robertson.
