Santa Claus to Visit Recreation Center on Christmas Eve

John A. Johnson owner of the Recreation Center on Railroad avenue announces Santa Claus will appear Christmas Eve Saturday Dec 24 at 7 30 pm in front of the center. Santa from the North Pole will greet children and talk with them and hand out free candy. Adults are invited to share in the season's joy.

Ralph Craig Wins Blackwell Trophy At New Mexico Western

Ralph Craig, a junior fullback at New Mexico Western College in Silver City, received the Blackwell trophy for the most valuable player. The award was announced at the Mustang club banquet on December 15, with coach Warren Woodson as guest speaker and 8 other guests in attendance. The trophy is on display at the Union store.

Knights of Pythias Hold Annual Christmas Party

The Knights of Pythias annual Christmas party at the K. P. hall featured Rev. Mil ler H. Stroup delivering the invocation and Harold E. Scofield as master of ceremonies. Barbara Parker read Squashville Poor to Rich, Rev. David E. Moore read the Luke Christmas story, and Zeke Kitts led carols with Thelma Ross at the piano. Alvin Parker, as Santa, handed out 150 candy sacks to children.

Animas High School faces Hachita on January 6 and San Simon on January 10 at Animas. Games include January 19 at Lordsburg and January 20 with Monticello at Animas. January 27 hosts Cloudcroft and January 31 Lordsburg B at Animas. February 17 visits Hachita and February 18 welcomes Quemado.

Hidalgo County cotton growers vote in a two to one margin to support marketing quotas for 1950. Four participants returned unofficial results with 60 in favor and 24 against. Harvey Breaks led a Lions Club program at Westerner cafe on Tuesday noon. Zeke Kitts sang The First Noel and Silent Night with Breaks aiding. Welles on violin and sax quartet members performed two numbers. A March of Dimes report and rural district committee chairs were announced. A Christmas program is planned for next Tuesday noon at Westerner cafe.
