Texan Held Here In Automobile Theft

A Borger Texas man was held here this week for federal authorities in connection with the theft of a 1941 Ford automobile Sunday in Santa Ana California. The man was picked up here Monday by Sheriff Oscar Allen and Highway Patrolman John R Broadford. He was in the car when arrested.

Miss Myrtle Tucker of Tucson wed Daniel W. Morrison of Jacksonville Fla via two telephones at the Lordsburg courthouse. The ceremony lasted two and a half hours with Justice W. M. McKinney officiating as Tucker was in Lordsburg and Morrison in Alaska with the army. Special forms and three weeks of paper work preceded the event and the license will be recorded upon return.

Moores Entertain at Baptist Christmas Party

The Rev and Mrs David FE Moore entertained a church family party at the First Baptist Church recreation room Monday evening. Forty persons attended to enjoy games and contests with refreshments served.

Ritter Walker Co remodeled several Lordsburg structures. Four buildings were finished last week including the Hidalgo Garage and Biltmore Camp Station along with Olney Building housing Rich Motor Co and other sites such as J D Tollett Service Station Lordsburg Auto Parts Co Texas Arizona Motor Freight Inc and Mission Station. Veterans Administration rep to visit Lordsburg on Dec 24

Richard P. Loomis of the Veterans Administration will be at the Hidalgo Hotel Lobby in Lordsburg on Tuesday December 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to assist veterans and dependents with rights and benefits issues. Veterans or dependents with questions about insurance claims training or other VA matters are urged to see him during the visit.

The Lordsburg Woman's Club held its monthly benefit bridge event Saturday with 18 members and guests. Mrs. C. B. Austin won the bridge prize and Mrs. Roy Bonar took the cut prize. arrangements were led by Mrs. Tom Clayton Sr. and others, the hall decorated in Christmas motif and refreshments served.

Nine members of Tasheed No. 19 Dokey Temple of Lordsburg attended a Dokey ceremonial in Clovis Saturday. The event was sponsored by the temple of Lubbock, Texas, with eight temples represented. Miss Peal McCants became the bride of Fred C Kerr Jr in a Saturday ceremony at the McCants Ranch west of town. Rev Rhea Kuykendall officiated with a reception to follow. Earl Dunkerson and Earl Warner have opened a radio repair service in a building behind the Egon News Stand. Warner came from New York and Dunkerson from Arizona, with Dunkerson’s father employed by Banner Mining Co.

A fire gutted Duncan Arizona’s Methodist church at 5 18 p m leaving only the stone walls standing. None of the furnishings were saved. A new pastor was due to arrive January 1.

Lordsburg High Hosts Deming Students and Holiday Sports

Lordsburg High School welcomed eight Deming High School students and instructor Miss Lucy Cobb to discuss youth voting campaigns. The Lakers played three basketball weekends, beating Animas and Silver City while facing Hot Springs at home. Future Homemakers of America members attended a district meeting in Deming with Patsy Smith elected district secretary.
