Police Chief Seeks Residents Holiday Absence List

Lordsburg Police Chief Rudy Gonzales says the department needs a roster of residents who will be away for one or more days during the holidays. Patrols will focus on vacant homes, and officers will not take vacations until after January 1.

Rodeo School Property Sold to Christensen Family

Animal School Board approved the sale of Rodeo School to Warren and Alber tine Christensen after a brief bid. The Christensens will pay 13 000 for the property though improvements on the site were valued at 7 000. The board declined to proceed with a vocational building now, citing budget shortfalls and considering options for a bond issue in January 1978.

Hidalgo County Tax Burden Rises With National Growth

Tax costs for Hidalgo County residents hit about 440 dollars per person in fiscal 1975, as state and local government operations across the nation climbed to 664 dollars per capita. The report notes widespread increases driven by welfare outlays and rising material costs, with 32 states in the billionaire club after 1975. Pueblo Prison Break Fugitive Narrowly Scoped in Santo Domingo

Convicted murderer Franklin Harrison Jr. who escaped Sunday from a state prison was captured Tuesday night at Santo Domingo Pueblo by Sandoval County deputies Vance Mabry and Robert Holland and returned to the penitentiary Wednesday. Harrison, 26, was among five escapees. authorities reported no struggle. Santo Domingo Pueblo officials found him wandering in the village and he claimed to be a University of New Mexico student.

Birt Edington Found Guilty Of Murder

Birt R. Edington of Rodeo was found guilty by Judge Norman Hodges of second degree murder in the May 4 1974 slaying of Domingo Alvarez. The charge was reduced from first degree murder. sentencing is set for Friday December 17 at 1 p.m. Hidalgo County Courthouse.
