ESAA Title VII Advisory Committee Meeting Announced
An organizational ESAA Title VII Advisory Committee meeting is set for Thursday December 14 at 7 30 p m at Lordsburg Professional Building 201 S Main. Officers will be elected and a program report heard. The project is funded by a federal grant via Lordsburg Optimist Club. Program Director Messina Gandara and Liaison Maura Rico named.

Winter Storm Traps Hundreds on I 10 In New Mexico
A severe winter storm shuts Interstate 10 from Las Cruces to west of Lordsburg. Blowing snow and icy roads strand 5 000 to 6 000 people in Lordsburg and Deming overnight. Churches lodges schools and private homes shelter travelers while state police close the highway and crews clear the ice.

Jacks Peak Repeater Aids Snow Search In New Mexico
In Grant County two Lordsburg and Silver City radio enthusiasts installed a repeater atop Jacks Peak aiding a search for a missing Arenas Valley woodcutter. With volunteers, Forest Service and state police, the effort coordinated from base camp in sub zero conditions. Harold Kemp was found dead in the Burro Mountains as ham radio support improved communications.

Lora Behmlander wife of Dr. F G Behmlander dies at Sunshine Haven Rest Home in Lordsburg Monday evening. Born 85 years ago in Morocco Indiana she married in 1919 after WWI service. Survived by husband daughter Carolynn Dolen and siblings in South Bend Indiana and California. Life member of Eastern Stars and Beta Sigma Phi.

Dallas Firm To Reopen Hidalgo General Hospital
Hidalgo County commissioners voted to hire Hospital Resources Management Inc to reopen Hidalgo General Hospital in Lordsburg. HRM will recruit two doctors and begin operations within 90 to 120 days if staff can be secured. no fees until doctors are in place. The Vista Medical Group proposal was dropped in favor of HRM. Don C. Humphrey praised HRM as best for medical coverage and a permanent hospital operation.
