Mountain lion killed by Mrs. Charles Ray in snow cave hunt

Mrs. Charles Ray killed a female mountain lion near their ranch six miles from home on December 4. The animal weighed 115 to 120 pounds and measured five and a half feet from nose to tail. Tracks led to a cave where the lion was smoked out and shot with a .22 rifle. Deer meat and hairs found in the stomach suggest a deer killing hunt. The Rays will tan the hide. substantial mountain snow is reported.

Lordsburg community hosts weekly Appreciation Day with the Treasure Chest drawing. Fred Anderson of Red Rock won $15, Mrs Clara Noling $20, and Mike Furman received $25 for the percentage drawing while Teresa Gonzales missed the event.

Malcolm Hill Sends Newsy Letter From Korea

Mrs. W. P. Hill received Malcolm Hill’s letter from the U. S. Navy in the fighting zone north of Korea. He described a stop in Yokosuka Japan with Armando P. Estrada who has been promoted to 3rd Class Petty Officer and saw Sgt. John Gilmore of the Marine Corps on leave.

Mexican National Killed in Truck Accident Near Hachita

Francisco Hernandez Suarez a Mexican national employed by Myers Bros near Hachita was killed Saturday at 7 30 p m when a tire blowout on a trailer caused the pickup to jerk and throw him from the vehicle He was born in Zacatecas Mexico and his body is held at Heather mortuary awaiting Mexican authorities directions

Prizes For Christmas Decorations In Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce offers prizes for Christmas outside lighting. First prize is 1000 dollars, second 7.50, third 5.00, and fourth 2.50. Judging is set for Tuesday night December 23 with transient judges in town. Householders are urged to decorate and inform the Chamber to ensure inclusion in judging.

Mavericks Open Season With Defeat At Duncan

The 1952-53 Mavericks opened with a 45 to 33 loss at Duncan as Smith led scoring with 18 points while Goodman and Jacobson had 10 each for Duncan. The Mavericks struggled against the man to man defense and could not counter the adjusted setup until late.

The Coming of the King Christmas Program at Central Gym

The Central PTA presents a living picture and carol program titled The Coming of the King at the Central school gym Monday evening December 15. Chairman of Xmas Seals Wakes Report

The Hidalgo County Tuberculosis association reports Christmas Seal sales are progressing well. Last year 535.00 was raised with 40 percent sent to state headquarters in Santa Fe and 60 percent kept in the county fund. About 200.00 of the local share funded an x ray mobile unit and x rays for those unable to pay, upon local physician referral. Dr Cohen is the local representative.
