Playas Road Funding Move Promised by Commission

Commissioner Rico told the board at the regular meeting that a call from Highway Commission official Mr Ford could push Playas Road funding from 1994 to 1993. She urged documenting the commitment and noted possible gaps with CAP and COOP funding.

Services Held Saturday For Ena Mitchell

Ena Richins Walter Mitchell 86 longtime Lordsburg resident died Tuesday December 1 after a short illness at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. Funeral services were held Saturday December 5 at the Cafetorium of Lordsburg High School at 2 00 p m with Bishop Woyd Steward officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery. She was born January 3 1906 in Colonial Diaz Chihuahua Mexico and was a Probate Judge in Hidalgo County until her death. She spent most of her life in the Lordsburg area and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and active in local civic activities. She is survived by 3 sons Charles R Walter Las Cruces Howard M Walter Lordsburg David W Walter Annapolis Maryland 7 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were her grandsons Dr Charles R Walter Jr Keith Walter Eric Walter Robert Jones Bernard Richardson Jr and Jim Wision. Honorary bearers were all the nephews. Bacas Funeral Chapels in charge of arrangements.

Kent Simmons says the Lordsburg Post Office will be open Saturdays 8 30 to 1 30 through Christmas The owner seeks to keep the 24 parcel division while returning the rest to ranch land to recover water rights She asks the County to maintain the road in the 24 parcel division The subdivision vacating motion was approved the road maintenance motion was tabled for further investigations Continued on Page 2

Open House and Pre Registration at Western Bank

An Open House and Spring 1993 Pre Registration co hosted by Western New Mexico University and Western Bank will occur Monday December 14 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at the bank. WNMU representatives will answer questions and register attendees for classes in Lordsburg including Composition Rhetoric I Conversational Spanish I Principles of Financial Accounting Mathematics and Liberal Arts and Appleworks. Refreshments will be served 5:00 to 6:30 PM.

LULAC Meeting Invites Silver City Residents

Salavor M. Diaz Jr. invites interested persons to attend a LULAC meeting in Silver City on December 12 1992 at 930 a.m. The gathering at the LULAC Building on Theodore and Alice Street aims to start a charter in Lordsburg. The mayor thanks law enforcement and volunteers for snow weekend efforts and electric parade participants.

Festival of Trees Set For Thursday in Cotton City NM

The 15th annual Festival of the Trees will be held Thursday December 19 1992 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cotton City New Mexico. A community Christmas sing led by the Lordsburg Ministerial Alliance will be held Sunday, December 13 at 6 30 PM at First United Methodist Church. Frank Schmidt dies at 57 in Illinois

Frank Schmidt of Arlington Heights Illinois died at home on Monday December 7 at age 57. A Lordsburg High School graduate he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a youth and remained active. He attended Brigham Young University and is survived by his wife four children seven grandchildren and his mother in Silver City.

Hoop Shoot Saturday At Dugan Lordsburg Elks Lodge

The 31st Elks Hoop Shoot for youths aged 8 through 13 will be at DTMS Saturday starting at 9 00 in Lordsburg. Contestants get 25 free throws per round with top scorers in each age group advancing through four tiers to nationals in Indianapolis Indiana. Local winners go to the district event in Ruidoso on January 23.
