The Wednesday Sewing Club met at the ranch home of S Freeman McWhorter for an enjoyable afternoon. Free Christmas trees offered with permits at forest ranger sites

Regulations require marking trees before cutting and permits for personal use. Free trees are available to communities churches and schools as in the past. Rangers will issue permits at chosen sites on December 20 with emphasis on fire safety due to extreme dryness.

Pythian Sisters Hold Christmas Dance at K P Hall

Missionary Society Meeting Closes Year Plans December Program

The Methodist Missionary Society met Friday afternoon with Mrs. RoVal Lundgren in charge of the Pro feasor Quizz Quizzer program. Plans were made for a pleasant profitable year and the next meeting is set for December 16 at the church with Mee Harry Seeafield and Mrs. Charles Fuller hosting. Attendees included Mrs. P. M. WPA Office Consolidation Across New Mexico Counties

The WPA reorganizes, moving offices from Silver City and other sites to Las Cruces under Supervisor Ro Ro Sedillo. Shillito and Silver City staff relocate to Las Cruces and Socorro, with the Las Cruces zone overseeing Grant, Lana, Hidalgo, and Catron counties. About 600 WPA workers in these counties, over half in Grant, face potential cuts opposed by Congressman Dempery in Washington.

Southwest New Mexico Livestock and Fair Association plans

Officers and directors met in the Hidalgo County court house to discuss a new project on land bought from the McGrath estate. The plan includes a half mile race track, a 1040 exhibit hall, a grand stand, feeders pens, a judging arena, and water facilities. Local sponsors include Lordsburg officials, Ritter-Walker, First National Bank, and Hotel Hidalgo among others. The Hidalgo county will sponsor as a perpetual enterprise under specific authority.

Lions Club Meeting in Lordsburg Plans and Local Events

The Lions Club in Lordsburg hosted Hlondolin W. Chapman former Legion and Rotary leader who urged early planning for the next State Legion Convention. The group announced a Deming district basketball tourney March 3–4, noted a strong Lordsburg team and season ticket sales, and reported land deeds near the high school. L. A. Wilkie will speak December 14, and members were urged to attend. The club also allocated ten dollars for Christmas basket aid.
