Mavericks Open Season With Par Of District Wins

The LHS Mavericks opened the 1967-68 season with a 77-39 win over Reserve Mountaineers and followed with a 63-52 victory over Cliff Cowboys. Ruben Bassa and Paul Speer scored 15 each, with Buster Estrada adding 13, as Lordsburg dominated after a slow start. The Mavericks travel to Hatch on Friday and host Deming on Saturday with games at 6:30 p.m.

Local Legion First In Gaining Quota

The American Legion Post 30 meets at the Legion Hall on Monday December 1 at 7 30 pm to hear Commander W W Scott report on the Fall conference in Albuquerque. The post was the first in the state to reach its membership quota by November 1, with 72 paid up members as of Sept 15.

Lordsburg merchants donate prizes for a Christmas lighting contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. On Friday December 23 awards will honor first second and third place in residential and business categories. No entry notice required as judging covers all decorated homes and firms. A chamber committee from motel guests will conduct a town tour as judges.

Wesley Freeburg Joins New Governor's Aging Advisory Panel

Wesley Freeburg was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Committee on Aging by Gov. David Cargo. The group will meet December 12 at the Executive Legislative Building in Santa Fe to discuss state and local elderly programs and plans for the upcoming State Governor's Conference on Aging.

Grady Pricer arrived in Lordsburg from Salina Kansas to take over the pulpit at 319 E Fifth St Church of Christ. He and his wife have a son Fay studying in his third year at Abilene Christian College. Pricer has preached since 1932 in Texas Oklahoma Wyoming Kansas and New Mexico.

Stevens Seek Transfer Of Grazing Privileges Near Lordsburg

Elmer and Mildred Stevens of Duncan Arizona filed a request to transfer Federal Grazing Privileges with the Bureau of Land Management Las Cruces New Mexico office. The move follows the sale of interests in ranch base properties formerly controlled by Raymond and Martha Fuller et al about 18 miles northwest of Lordsburg involving 9 833 acres of public land. Injunction Sought To Block Lordsburg Special Election
