Funeral for D. C. Pon Held Friday Afternoon

Dong Shew Pon, 64, prominent resident, died suddenly Wednesday night after a Mayo Clinic treatment period. He and Mr and Mrs Ralph P Smith were returning from Rochester when Mr Pon suffered a heart attack in Deming. The body was taken to Lordsburg for funeral services.

Santa Fe Speakers To Be At PTA Meeting

Santa Fe speakers will join the PTA program at the high school auditorium Tuesday evening December 6. The meeting starts at 8 p m with an interesting program and a cordial invitation to the public.

Lions Club Host At Zone Meeting December 5th

Lordsburg Lions club welcomes new members Dr. F Dudley Jones and David D Warren Jr who gave life resumes at the regular meeting Tuesday noon at the Westerner cafe. Wesley Freeburg resigns as program chairman and H H Bryant is named by President Dick Rice.

Funeral Service at Heather Mortuary Led by Rev Moore

Friday afternoon service at Heather mortuary officiated by Rev David E. Moore of First Baptist. Hymns included Going Down the Valley One by One and Nearer My God to Thee sung by a quartet led by Mrs Wil. Continued on Page 14.

Lordsburg Chamber Adds Five New Members

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce welcomes five new members from four local firms and professions. They are Dr. F. Dudley Jones Claude Williams manager of the Gila Valley Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co J K Spencer of Spencer and son and A J and J W Bivens of the Bivens Motel on the Duncan highway. The group is also pursuing a project to purchase a new operating table for Hidalgo County Hospital.

Man Killed In Accident East Of Town This Morning

One man was killed and another injured in a highway crash east of town this morning around 7 45. The deceased was identified as Ralph Junior Borgan about 25 with the other injured man unnamed. A photo on page 9 accompanies the report.

Knights of Khorassan Donate Food to School Lunchroom

The Dramatic Order of Knights of Khorassan donated a large quantity of usable food to the school cafeteria, delivered from last Saturday noon. The donation was warmly welcomed as an acceptable addition to the lunchroom supply.

Benefit Dinner For Hospital Equipment Dec 10

The Woman's club sponsors a benefit dinner at the clubhouse on Saturday evening December 10 at 7 oclock. Proceeds buy a surgical cart for Hi Cilio County hospital. The club has a repossessed cart in good condition available for $65 instead of $125. A full course baked ham dinner is $1 per plate. Mrs. Ben Cochran and Miss continue the notice on page 9.

Rainbow Initiation to be Held by Order of the Rainbow for Girls

The Order of the Rainbow for Girls will hold an initiation Tuesday evening December 6 at 7 30 P M at the Masonic Hall. All members are urged to attend.

LDS Cotton Picking Bee At Duncan Nears Help For Salt Lake

A large turnout of over 280 Latter Day Saints gathered November 19 at the Duncan area church farm to pick cotton for Salt Lake City Utah. The gathered cotton will support mattress production for church distribution through the Welfare Plan aiding needy members. Heaton Lunt leads the farm with the Stake Presidency and church bishops assisting. Women participate under direct church direction as the effort grows toward potential in house cloth production for the poor.

Thanksgiving Box Filled By LDS Children

The Lordsburg Primary of the LDS church sent a large Thanksgiving box to the Primary Crip pled Children's hospital in Salt Lake City Utah. Each child and officers donated canned fruit juices soap bath towels clothing bibs sheets ribbons and other needed articles. The children were delighted to bring their gifts and give pleasure and comfort to a shut in.
