Lordsburg Womans club met Monday with Mrs. J. A. Foster presiding. M4 Miller and H. Stroup were welcomed as new members. The group voted to sponsor a December card party to raise funds for a surgic cart, support a school lunch program, and provide used clothing via the school nurse.
Major portion of installing a new 14 inch test in the experimental iron well near Rodeo New Mexico has been completed Oren of Douglas in charge of the installation reports. Thomas Morrison a partner in the Morton Drilling Company says his firm will bring a 12 cylinder 900 horsepower marine engine from war surplus to power the pump it will be converted to 200 horsepower. Mr Key will convert the engine at his Motor and Steel Works in Douglas enabling natural gas burning instead of the liquid fuel for which it was built. Hector Luis Botello two year old son of Mrs Berta Botello was fatally injured Friday when neighbor Severo Nuneza backed a 1935 Ford amp truck into him in a backyard on B street The child died en route to hospital Funeral services were at St Josephs Catholic church burial Shakespeare cemetery The child is survived by his mother and three sisters
Sealed ballots for the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce presidency and four directors were opened on Monday November 21. George P Jeffus received 26 votes for president while Farle Kerr had 21. directors totals show Donald Johnson 27, B R Myers 24, J A Foster 19, J H Baxter 20, R B Ownby 21, H J Heather 21, Paul Malett 12. Jeffus leads the slate.
The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor an enchilada dinner on Tuesday November 29 at the Legion hall. Serving times are noon to 1 30 and 5 30 to 8 30 with public invited.
Thanksgiving Day grid game at 2 p m features Lordsburg high school Mavericks ending the 1949 season at the high school field in Duncan Ariz The squad notes a rebuilding year with many players in their first year under fire The game kicks off at 2 o clock and organizers seek a large turnout
Rural electric lines planned for Rodeo Animas and Hachita would come from the Community Public Service company at Lordsburg under a contract not yet negotiated. The REA approved routes from Lordsburg to Animas then to Rodeo region, Cloverdale and Hachita, with funds already set aside for construction.
Mrs. Thomas Hubbard district president of the American Legion Auxiliary has postponed her official visit to the Lordsburg unit until after the new year. A regular meeting was held Tuesday evening at the Legion Hall.
Governor Mabry accepted honorary chairmanship of the New Mexico Tuberculosis Association Christmas Seal sale campaign. The drive opens November 21 with 18,000,000 seals distributed to 31 county associations. Luella Clark leads Hidalgo county seals efforts in Lordsburg and Hidalgo county with a swift response urged.
Dr. F Dudley Jones who opened a practice here and David D Warren Jr veterans teacher for the state department of vocational education took the oath of membership at the Lions Club meeting held Tuesday noon at the Westerner cafe. President Dick Rice announced Sun Bowl tickets for the high school football traveling squad to El Paso on Jan 2 and will distribute them at a school assembly. Jack Morgan of the March of Dimes spoke about the upcoming December drive. Guests included Mr McLean of the El Paso Club E K Romney of Duncan Ariz Arthur Carstens of Papillion Nebr and Clarence Storm of Yutan Nebr.
