State Elks Announce Winners of Cerebral Palsy Drive
The New Mexico Elks finished their annual Cerebral Palsy drive on November 18 determining six prize winners. First prizes included a 1962 Cadillac and another 1962 Cadillac. Other winners include Manuel Rodriguez of Artesia with a mink stole, Gallup Elks Lodge with a Magnavox stereo, Henry D. Garcia of Los Alamos with a Bulova watch, Boys' Club Director of Carlsbad with an electric typewriter, and Alfonso Ward of El Paso with a Polaroid camera. Proceeds support 360 cerebral palsy victims in the state.

Two Returned To Face Charges In New Mexico Case
Ray M. McCovey Jr. was returned from Phoenix to Lordsburg to face grand larceny charges filed by Ney C. Ridling of Silver City Shamrock Oil Co. He pled guilty at a preliminary hearing and was bound over for district court. He is held on 2000 dollars bond. He allegedly took Shamrock property from a service station west of Lordsburg. Sheriff Pace also went to Lubbock Texas to fetch Fred Collins former operator of the 8 Truck Stop Cafe on charges of concealment and selling property without the right.

Youths Arrested in Stolen Car Near Dairy Queen
James A. Spires an 18 year old Tor rance resident was arrested Monday night by State Police Officer Joe Rutland aided by Chief Gene Moore and Sheriff Hugh Pace. FBI charges allege transporting a stolen car across state lines from Los Angeles area. Three other youths hitchhiking were not held by the FBI and were picked up east of Phoenix after the vehicle was traced to Duncan.

Olen C. Monroe was appointed Lordsburg manager of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co to succeed Howard Ross, effective December 4. Ross moves to Grants as manager, a promotion, after serving Lordsburg since June 1959. Monroe joined the company in 1951 and will relocate his wife and two young sons to Lordsburg once housing is secured.

The Lordsburg project to enlarge the American Legion Hall stalls as shipment delays hold up progress. When finished the hall will exceed 2,000 square feet with a larger kitchen and redecorated interior, plus ample parking for banquets or conventions. Luna Lite blocks and a concrete floor form the new construction, and a community campaign seeks post members and friends to fund the addition with block purchases at 1.00 each.
