Funeral rites held for Mrs. Rose Rosenstein in El Paso

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Rosenstein 49 died Thursday morning August 18 at the family home were conducted Friday at 4 pm in Harding and Orr Chapel El Paso Rabbi Floyd Fireman officiated burial followed at Mount Sinai Cemetery in El Paso She was wife of former Lordsburg mayor Harry Rosenstein owner of Union Clothing Co Survivors include two brothers Leo and Myles Cohen of Lordsburg parents Mr and Mrs Isaac Cohen of El Paso two uncles H Jaffee and A Yaffe of El Paso Pallbearers were Louis Given A J Blaugrund Lionel Feimer Luis Zork Leonard Goodman Sr and Sidney Lubarr.

Come-Back Closes Bout in 30 Seconds

Pat Carley returned to boxing in 1921 after a long layoff Saturday night and knocked out his opponent in 30 seconds of the first round. Spectators watched as the referee counted to ten and Cart Carley carried the defeated fighter to his corner.

The Chamber of Commerce directors consider the voting method for electing a president and three directors for the coming year. The election will be held in November. A public announcement will come in a few weeks. Only members in good standing may vote.

City workers remove weeds from vacant lots encroaching on sidewalks to improve appearance and pedestrian convenience. Property owners are urged to trim grass and shrubs near public walks to support the effort.

Second Diphtheria Injections Due and Softball Title Fight

Second diphtheria injections are now due. The Banner Mine softballers and the Plumbers meet Thursday at 6 p.m. to decide the league championship in a seven inning game. Banner is undefeated in the first round but lost twice last week to the Mavericks and Moctezuma.

Parents are reminded that second diphtheria injections are due for school children who had a first dose on July 29. Report to Central School at 10:00 a.m. on Friday for the second injection or use the County Health Department with a signed permission.

Upsets Mark Softball Week Amid Narrow Wins

Last week featured several upsets with the Plumbers edging Moctezuma 5-4 in extra innings and the Mavericks handing Banner Mine their first loss 2-1 after an extra frame. Friday saw C P S defeat the Mavericks 9-1 and Moctezuma beat the Miners 6-1.

Square Dance Evening Planned at LDS Tennis Court

A large square dance is set for Thursday night August 25 at 8 p m on the LDS tennis court with no admission charge. Everyone who follows the dance hall standards is invited and beginners are welcome. Young people are especially invited and ample parking is available.

Scholarship Winner To Attend Texas Western College

Miss Roselee Robeson won the Hotel Dieu scholarship awarded by the local Business and Professional Women's Club. She left Monday with her parents to enter Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in El Paso and will attend Texas Western College for credit toward a degree.

Temperature readings at Southern Pacific Railroad station

The following temperatures were recorded at the Southern Pacific Railroad station for a sequence of dates in August. The highs ranged from 95 to 106 degrees and the lows from 59 to 72 degrees, with several days showing negative highs in the 90s.
