Widow Fights State Over Land For I 10 Ramp
Rita Hill and her daughter Janaloo protest Ramp C on the Interstate 10 project claiming 59 of the 300 acre Shakespeare ranch will be condemned. The 71 year old widow lives in a 7 by 8 foot shack on the site and opposes commercialized development while maintaining environmental values.

New Mexico Human Rights Commission to Hear Lordsburg Cases
The New Mexico Human Rights Commission will hold a hearing in Lordsburg on Friday August 24. Seventeen former City of Lordsburg employees allege employment discrimination based on national origin. Hearing panel includes Commissioner Albert Johnson Alfredo Abalos and Josephine Battese with executive director Charles Rudolph attending. The session starts at 10 a.m. in the Lordsburg High School Cafetorium.

William R. Graves of Las Cruces and Phil Rey Finley of Deming arrested on August 8 and August 20 for distributing counterfeit money. About $526 seized from Graves. bail set at $5,000 for Graves while Finley was released on his own recognizance. Investigators credit Lordsburg, Deming, and Las Cruces police for halting the ring.
