A Hidalgo and Dona Ana county area grazing committee discussed licensing on public domains under the Taylor Grazing Act. The panel reported 625 license applications with 138 rejected and 49 held for further inquiry while full implementation depends on survey results and state commission stances.
In Williams a young woman, 19, plans marriage to Ira Martin now a first lieutenant assigned at Gillette, after a series of moves through El Paso and Denver. Her mother Mrs. R. J. Smith and family are part of the extended circle as the couple prepare for vows near Lordsburg. Local officials and visitors, including CCC and grazing inspectors, were in town this week for events and meetings.
Mrs Joseph Engberg and her niece Miss Thelma, visiting from Oklahoma City, are staying in Ponduplex apartments. The Bonney organization adds to the community as a progressive city feature.
G Barry former president of El Paso School of Mines meets with Bennie Confering to discuss Animas mining area. They traveled from El Paso to the Mo mining region for several days of consultations.
An elderly London political figure, John Hodsdon, 83, suffered a severe elbow injury in an accident near a bus in Ohio on the way to Puente California. He was treated at DeMoss Hospital as pieces of bone were removed and planned to travel to California with his son once stabilized.
Gov Clyde Tingley assures Portales resolution and eastern farmers that the port of entry law will not injure marketing efforts. He says the measure protects New Mexico industries and fights unfair competition and bootlegging, including gasoline, with a broad interpretation to ease adoption.
Deputy Game Warden Frank Weldon Jr announced Charles Williams of Santa Fe, a salaried game department employee, will trap coyotes and eagles and other predatory animals in the Gold Hill district.
A campground owner told Governor Clyde Tingley that New Mexico is attracting a better class of tourists due to the state ad campaign. They are spending more money and coming in larger numbers, boosting income for merchants and triggering higher gasoline and sales tax revenues.
Miss Gladys Solveson of Tuba City Arizona stayed with her sister county nurse Miss Verna Hancock over Sunday. Together they visited numerous local places of interest during the visit.

Missionary zone gathering at the Methodist Church runs from 10 A M to 3 P M with hymns prayers and a luncheon. Lordsburg hosts welcome and Santa Tomas offers prayers while Mrs Pullen Mrs Dickenson Mrs Walker and others lead Bible readings songs and reports on membership finances and outreach efforts.
Engineer A. C. Nebeker visited Prescott last week to present Mrs. Nebeker with a new Chrysler. Returning to Lordsburg on Wednesday he arrived with his wife and son A. C. Jr plus his school chum Val Despain. The Nebekers noted residents Engberg and his wife and niece joining Lordsburg.
Mrs. Trimbie Townsend and Childress return from a 5000 mile motor tour through the Mountain states visiting Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Parks. They found snow Estes Park Big Trees of California Spokane and the San Diego exposition along the coast.
District Administrator W. A. Mc Andries has moved his Hidalgo county WPA staff into the Johnson store building once occupied by the Union clothing store. With WPA not paying rent, local business leaders have signed or been asked to join to cover the rent and keep the headquarters active.
Capt Earl L Mickelson of Fort Bliss says seven CCC camps he supervised will be nearly finished this week with one eight miles north of Deming to finish soon. Camps are spread across Hidalgo Grant and Luna counties. New Mexico will supply all enrollees to the Animas camp per Commander Carter and Superintendent Frank Jones.
The Lordsburg and county schools resume regular sessions Monday September 2 1935. A joint faculty meeting of county and municipal teachers will be held at Lordsburg High School that day. Class work starts the same date and a program copy will appear in Liberal next week.
Mrs L Brown hosted a Tuesday afternoon birthday party for her daughter Jean Ella. Guests included Marlene Pierce Connie Jean Reynolds Dorothy Melnnis Geneva Pennington Junior Pennington Sibyl Williams Charlie Stevens Olive Ann Wright Richard Miller and Margery Miller of Tucson. Games produced three prizes then a pink candle cake pink lemonade and homemade ice cream were served to the young guests.
Tragic death of 13 year old Frasier Scott occurred at the Harper stock tank north of Lordsburg after he and friend Leroy Walker waded in. Rescue efforts by Ford Brown and Walter Van Meter, coroner’s inquest, and a large Methodist funeral followed with both Scouts as pallbearers.

Many beautiful and useful gifts were received.
Lordsburg High School opens 1935 season practice Monday August 26 under coaches Ehrharnt and Moses to boost fitness and reduce injuries. Returning lettermen include George Pendleton Lalo Banches Eddy DeMons Eugene Palm Hughie Sullivan Arthur Altuna. Notable absentees Trellie LeDoux Billie Smith. Additional returnees Steven Birchfield Don Kerr Eldridge Brown Leo Elms Felix Cordova John Nicholson Harbor Heather Lowell Jones Salvador Salinas Paul Fierro. From eighth grade Merced Gutierrez Alfredo Guaman Carlos Padilla Leandro Castillo may join. two to three returning with prior football experience expected.
Supt. Palm reports W C Mearns returned from Interlochen Music Camp with ideas to strengthen Lordsburg bands this year. He urges recruiting a strong junior group to feed the senior band, acquire new uniforms and instruments, and asks students and parents to engage in all musical education efforts. Let's make this a big year in music.
Weather forecasts from multiple offices predict partly cloudy conditions and warmer temperatures in Lordsburg and vicinity with possible thundershowers late Saturday. Minimums around 70 Friday morning and 68 Saturday. maximums near 95 last week. Rainfall totals recorded on the 17th to 20th sum to 0.21 inches.
The Georgia Caravan, based in Atlanta, will arrive in Lordsburg next Wednesday August 28 and stay overnight before moving to Greenville Texas on August 30. The group of 192 members plus office staff travels in nine buses and two private cars visiting parks and cities from San Diego to Lordsburg. Local courtesy will be shown by the Chamber of Commerce and Western Union as Lordsburg hosts these educators.

District Engineer J P Church and Frank Scott visited en route to Rodeo to study an overpass project. A new structure will span about 2000 feet of the railroad with an estimated cost near $76 000.
In Pyramid Lodge No. 24 on Tuesday evening C C B Ownby of Douglas presided and heard his uncle Judge B B Ownby deliver a strong second rank talk. Damon Dunagan received the second work as the lodge heard the address. Mr and Mrs Ownby are spending part of a month visiting their mother Nora Ownby and plan a California trip. Ownby is building a garage on his Second Street residence while here.
Five year old Jimmie Pedrick son of Mrs Cicilia Pedrick had tonsils and adenoids removed at Lordeburg hospital Monday morning and returned home the following day.
J. I. Hrode of Willcox underwent a successful operation for gangrenous appendicitis at DeMonis Hospital and will return home today.
The N. and T. Club met Tuesday afternoon at the Ft. A. Palm residence with Mrs. Palm as hostess. Guests included Mrs. Goehring of Gallup New Mexico Miss Ima Fairly and Mrs. Susan Laurinas. Refreshments featured fruit salad and iced tea.
Lordaburg Airport air service promotes Everett O Wogstad to duty at Dryden Texas for his effective work. His departure saddens Lordsburg as Mrs Wogstad, former clerk at the post office and Lordsburg High School alumna, leaves fond memories. Stewart H Buchanan to succeed Wogstads role at the Lordsburg airport.
Governor Clyde Tingley and a procession of officials dedicated the Black Range highway amid an estimated five thousand attendees. Cars traveled from Lordsburg to witness the ceremony on this scenic southwest route.
A routine visit to the Chamber of Commerce drew Sgt. Hurley D. Jones, Superintendent Frank Jones of the Animal CCC camp, and Mins Alice Jones secretary to District Supervisor Cider of the Transient Bureau in quick succession.
J M Jordan sustained severe burns to the hands when a gasoline stove started a blaze at his home Saturday afternoon. The fire caused little structural damage and he was taken to Lordsburg Hospital where he is rapidly recovering.
