Captain Michelson Reports CCC Camps Near Complete

Capt Earl L Mickelson of Fort Bliss says seven CCC camps he supervised will be nearly finished this week with one eight miles north of Deming to finish soon. Camps are spread across Hidalgo Grant and Luna counties. New Mexico will supply all enrollees to the Animas camp per Commander Carter and Superintendent Frank Jones.

The Lordsburg and county schools resume regular sessions Monday September 2 1935. A joint faculty meeting of county and municipal teachers will be held at Lordsburg High School that day. Class work starts the same date and a program copy will appear in Liberal next week.

Mrs L Brown hosted a Tuesday afternoon birthday party for her daughter Jean Ella. Drowned boy Frasier Scott mourned in Lordsburg area

Tragic death of 13 year old Frasier Scott occurred at the Harper stock tank north of Lordsburg after he and friend Leroy Walker waded in. Rescue efforts by Ford Brown and Walter Van Meter, coroner’s inquest, and a large Methodist funeral followed with both Scouts as pallbearers.

Georgia Caravan Camps Here Next Wednesday

The Georgia Caravan, based in Atlanta, will arrive in Lordsburg next Wednesday August 28 and stay overnight before moving to Greenville Texas on August 30. The group of 192 members plus office staff travels in nine buses and two private cars visiting parks and cities from San Diego to Lordsburg. Local courtesy will be shown by the Chamber of Commerce and Western Union as Lordsburg hosts these educators.

Overpass For Rodeo To Cost $75 000

District Engineer J P Church and Frank Scott visited en route to Rodeo to study an overpass project. A new structure will span about 2000 feet of the railroad with an estimated cost near $76 000.

Governor Clyde Tingley and a procession of officials dedicated the Black Range highway amid an estimated five thousand attendees. Cars traveled from Lordsburg to witness the ceremony on this scenic southwest route.

J M Jordan Burned In House Fire

J M Jordan sustained severe burns to the hands when a gasoline stove started a blaze at his home Saturday afternoon. The fire caused little structural damage and he was taken to Lordsburg Hospital where he is rapidly recovering.
