The Republican county convention at the county seat elected Frank R. Coon Dr. M. M. Crocker A. W. Morningstar and R. H. Woods as state delegates to Santa Fe for today s meeting. A resolution urged delegates to vote for Holm O Bursum to seek reelection as U S Senator citing his value to the state.
At 2 AM fire destroyed the Old Lordsburg Hotel across the tracks after a train delay hampered hoses. engineer Carl Olden lost 125 in cash and a $125 gold watch. Oscar Hunter occupied the hotel. Owner Mrs John Robson plans decision after insurance settlement.
Letters describe a journey from Cascade to El Paso with remarks on Great Falls mill culture and a large copper smelter. The writer notes good health after a Portland illness and jokes about mosquitos, heat, and local life in a boom town.
A letter dated August 15 1921 from C Johnston describes visiting Lordsburg boys at Citizens training camp near Denver Colorado. He praises the location and scenes and mentions obtaining pictures of Col Cody's grave.
A notice details a Rodeo event on Saturday August 26 at Lordsburg with free barbecue goat roping bronco busting horse racing cow pony racing and hot baseball games. Wright's Orchestra provides music for dances both nights offering entertainment for all ages.
Mrs. K. R. Ownby and daughter Jewel returned from Houston after an eight week visit with relatives. They also visited Waelder relatives and were pleased with improvements at their home.
Miss Annie Rutter arrived on No 109 from Newlyn Cornwall England and faced confusion as her sister, living in Los Angeles, had moved from Morenci. Mia Elizabeth Gammon and Chamber of Commerce officials organized help until a wire from the sister arrived. Mr W J Heather, a former England resident, offered a chat with the visitor.
Mrs Myrtle Martha Gilmore of Tullison died Sunday evening in Lordsburg. She was the daughter of Mrs M Click and sister of Mrs Lyman Garrett of Valdon. Funeral held at the Methodist Church Tuesday with Rev M O Williams. Grant Leahy funeral director. She leaves a husband, mother, four brothers, two sisters, and an infant son. Interment was at Mountainview Cemetery.

The American Steel and Wire Co a United States Steel subsidiary has been buying copper in million pound lots. Purchases around 12 cents a pound with bids at 11 1 2 cents. Export demand remains fair and shipments abroad have been good since month start. July volume nears 75 million pounds for export and domestic sales.
The County Democratic Convention met at K P Hall with Chairman Ownby presiding. J D Jordan B H W Cross elected to the executive committee and KR W Aldrich county secretary. Precinct chairmen elected J A Love and BH Cross. Chairman Ownby offered resignation due to workload. J D Jordan and Earle Kerr discussed as successors. New State Central Committeemen Ralph Spann and A B Ownby nominated. State delegation went uninstructed.
Major George H. Kelly editor of the Douglas Daily International and William B. Kelly editor postmaster of Clifton were welcome callers at the Liberal office Tuesday. The pair traveled from Clifton to Douglas in the Major's car.
The wedding occurred at Mrs TH G Adams residence in Playas Valley on August 10. Miss Hazel Hollingworth formerly of Midland Texas taught in the valley for two years. The groom, P M Ewing Hidalgo County ranchman and farmer, farms fifty acres and the couple reside at his farm with many friends invited.
There is nothing new to report on the State Bank situation as of press time. Special Examiner Lackland continues to handle all necessary actions, and no additional developments have been disclosed.

The Bowman Bank Union Bank at Las Cruces have consolidated. The combined institution will operate as Rowman Bank & Trust Co with W W Cox as president and W B May K P Porter as vice presidents Frank W Campbell as cashier and John Bingham plus Miss Irene Jones as assistant cashiers.
A letter dated August 16 1024 from Hafford Arizona to Mr Holt laments missing Liberal papers. The writer notes only one Liberal issue arrived since arriving, and says three final copies have not been received, expressing affection for home and hometown news.

The battleship New Mexico flagship of the Pacific fleet has been awarded the battle efficiency pennant for top gunnery and engineering merit, according to a Navy Department announcement.
John P. Ronan of the State National Bank El Paso and his family toured New Mexico and praised southern roads as superior to northern routes. He said the Steins to Rodeo federal aid project will create a premier 50 mile drive between El Paso and Phoenix. Ronan noted his father built Lordsburg brick buildings years ago.
Captain J P Hodgson general manager of Phelps Dodge Corpora tion Morenci Branch is expected to arrive in Morenci the first of the week from a combined business and pleasure trip in Michigan and New York. Negotiations between Phelps Dodge officials and Arizona Copper Co officials for the purchase of the A B holdings in the district proceed as planned in New York City.

Carl Hosted of the Reliable Tire and Rubber Co. underwent a serious operation Saturday and is progressing nicely with expected work in two weeks. Bennie Dunagan was bitten by a mosquito and stayed awhile. The insect was said to have had home brew before reaching Bennie’s house.
A Bankhead Highway Pathfinder car traveling from San Diego to Washington reported the route in fine condition through the region, except for one spot between Rodeo and Douglas. The driver told the Liberal that the San Diego to Lordsburg stretch remains in good shape overall.
At a regular Lordsburg chamber meeting the nomination of officers was deferred to the second Friday in September. Hidalgo County Chamber will be formed and a full slate of officers and directors elected. Each precinct is urged to send representatives to participate. The initiative promises wide benefits to the region.
Mrs. Leahy arrives from California after a lengthy coast stay and appears in robust health. Friends say she looks ten to fifteen years younger.
Hich Ore discoveries in Mentea Mexico by Cloudt and nephew Lee Bolcomnon return after an extended stay. They report rich ore prospects with samples of gold and silver ready for smelting. Mr Cloudt and Mr Solomon visit at Mrs James Kagar home.
Rev Richard Power celebrated Solemn High Mass at the church of St Joseph on Sunday morning delivering a strong sermon on The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Hosewig's Mass in G was beautifully rendered by Mrs J A Pithpatrick Miss Cecelia Jones Miss Arabella Jones and W J Heather. The choir sang Ave Maria at offertory before a large audience.
Miss Mildred Clayton entertained a small group including Belly Hoyd Dorothy Stengle Shirley Belch and Dorothy Walker in a musical program Saturday afternoon. After the recital dainty refreshments were served.
