Brown Rites Held in Albuquerque for Belclair Native

Percy New i Brown, born January 4 in Belclair Texas, died Friday in Albuquerque after a long Lordsburg residency. He served as a barber, then 17 years in the county assessor's office. A Masonic member, he leaves a widow, daughter in Tucson, son Jim Brown, two sisters in Tucson, and a brother in Lordsburg. Services were conducted by Bishop Al Officiating and H Vearle Payne.

Wimp's Shell upset Bishop Lumber in the final round robin game of the tournament. Wimp built a two run lead early, added two more in the second, and three in the fifth. Bishop plated three in the third as the crowd watched a tight contest. After the final out, sponsors and managers were introduced and awards handed out, with Bishop earning first place and Wimp receiving second place and a win trophy.

Coach Craig Returns From Coaching School

Ralph Craig, head coach at Lordsburg High School, returned Tuesday from a busy summer. He attended a week at a coaching school in Santa Barbara and two weeks at the New Mexico coaching school in Albuquerque. He said both programs were interesting and he learned a lot, but he is ready to get back to work. Opening practice for the coming football season is set for Monday.

Highway Contract Probably Will Be Let In September

The State Highway Department held a public hearing August 11 at City Hall on a divided highway from Road Forks to the Lordsburg west end. Bids for the 13.4 mile stretch will likely be called for in the regular September contract, with work possibly starting in early November. Plans were shown via projector, and no objections were raised. The interstate type highway will have limited access, with interchanges at the Gary turn-off and the Animas road junction.

Registration Dates Set for 1968 59 School Year
