Victor Ornelas, Treasure, sought approval to spend 4500 for Emmons and Associates to cover professional services, travel lodging and training two days monthly for up to six months. He had strong supporter turnout with Jacob Martinez urging praise and assistance.
The Lordsburg Optimist Club will host its annual youth silhouette shoot on Saturday August 21 at 10 00 AM. Open to surrounding youths with three age groups 8 to 11 12 to 15 and 16 to 18 with trophies for top finishers. Participants may use any .22 caliber rimfire open sight rifle excluding target rifles. Free to participants and ammunition provided. Further details to appear in next week's Liberal.
The athletic department announces football season parking tickets go on sale Monday August 23 with current holders able to renew until Thursday August 26. Parking space plus one adult admission is 17 dollars. Regular adult season tickets 12 dollars student tickets 8 dollars. Sales at the high school office 8 AM to 3 30 PM Monday through Friday. First Maverick game September 3 versus Duncan Wildkats.
Hidalgo County Chamber seeks more parade entrants for this year’s Hidalgo County Fair Parade. Marshals are Mr and Mrs Allen Hill. Floats entered include Phelps Dodge Lordsburg Elks Lodge Rockamania and Chamber of Commerce with cars listed as Shriner’s Miniature Cars 1941 Chevrolet Ralph Sauerman and Tommy Hood plus the Post Office. Animal entrants include Horse Patrol and Water Wagon with walkers Woodsy Owl and Smoky Bear. Judging by Ann Marie Moore and Bill Mitchell. Lordsburg High School yearbooks arriving and distribution Friday 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the High School.
City crews responded to a major water line break on Main Street reported around 2:00 a.m. Irene Galvan city clerk said the crew fixed the break by 8:00 a.m. and reopened the street around 10:00 a.m. after pavement repairs.
Hidalgo County Fair hosts its annual Pet Show during fair festivities. Prizes include a 25 dollar clip and dip from Dog Patch of Lordsburg, six month Video Stop membership with tapes, a large pizza from Mr. Pizza, and a Back to School cut from Stylerite Hair Salon. Bring your pets for fun and a chance to win.
Labor Day weekend events organized by Pansy McDonald include Noce de Musica with Trio Las Travordores Del Valle and others at Hidalgo County Fairgrounds. Activities feature Unusual Pet Show, Chicken Race, poster and dressup contests, races, Watermelon contest and throws. Booths available by calling 542-3591.
All educational retirees of Lordsburg Municipal Schools are invited to attend a general faculty meeting and luncheon at the Cafeteria on Tuesday August 17 at 11 00 AM.
The Hidalgo Soil and Water Conservation District selects Lunts Dairy as outstanding conservation farmer. The 332 acre family operation straddling the New Mexico-Arizona line includes dairy, cropland and ranch land. Sr. Lunt is the contact. the family cooperates with the district for over 20 years.
Sixto Mora 91 died April 28 1993 in Auburn Alabama and Elena Mora died April 25 in Auburn. A memorial mass was held August 12 at 10:00 AM at St Josephs Catholic Church officiated by Fr Sam Garcia. Interment followed at Shakespeare Cemetery. They were lifelong Catholics with son Emilio Mora daughter in law Barbara and granddaughter Mary Mora among 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Local arrangements by Bacas Funeral Chapels.
A calf dressing event will run August 26 27 and 28 at the Hidalgo County Fair Ranch Rodeo. $30 prize money from WIFE for the fastest team each night and CowBelles prizes for best dressed calf. Calves supplied by Andy and Louise Peterson. proceeds go to Junior Livestock Exhibitors. Entry fee $10 per three member team. For details call Duti Walter at 548-2305.
Beta Sigma Phi sponsors the Hidalgo County Chile Cookoff seeking contestants for three categories green chile red chile and salsa at the 42nd Hidalgo County Fair. The Hidalgo County Fair Junior Rodeo runs Friday August 27 at 1 PM and Saturday August 28 at 8 AM with five youth age divisions from 5 and under to 19.
