Squabbles erupt over state inter jurisdiction in municipal code debates. The issue concerns who has the power to act and who can transact municipal business under the code.
The Las Vegas hospital is expanding training for personnel dealing with the mentally ill and improving patient care. A mid year report notes regional treatment programs attract out of state interest with Utah and Arizona staff visiting, while institutes for doctors ministers and nurses and a six week pastoral care program were held or planned across the state.
Ralph Burton of the Hidalgo County Savings Bonds Committee reports that Series E and H bond purchases in New Mexico for the first six months totaled 8 346 514 dollars, up 21.96 percent from the prior year. Hidalgo County residents bought 14 861 dollars in six months and 1 512 dollars in June, with June 1966 totals rising 9.5 percent from a year earlier. Nationwide first half cash sales reached 2 511 million dollars, 7 percent above last year, with June at 397 million dollars, up 9.5 percent.
Phenix City Alabama resident Roy M Greene writes to Lordsburg City Council praising Chief Rogers and staff for their kind treatment and assistance after an accident near Lordsburg New Mexico. He expresses gratitude and asks the council to know of the concern shown.
Lordsburg Starlights lost 9 to 8 to Deming in five innings after leading 5 to 0 through four innings. Lordsburg Ladies beat Deming 3 to 2 in six innings to complete the doubleheader. The Lordsburg AM Star team schedules a game with St Ann’s of Deming on Wednesday at 8 pm at Short Baseball Park.
Rainy conditions slowed Peewee and Little League play as top teams linger in first. Dodgers and Mets hold leads in Little League standings while Peewee Pirates and Astros push in second. Next week closes season with key matchups and an All Star women’s game versus St Ann of Deming on August 10.
Lordsburg High announces a busy start to the new term. Freshman orientation registration and health checks begin August 10 at 8:30. Football season tickets go on sale. Events include sophomore registration, junior and senior check-ins, football meetings, practice, new faculty orientation, and a general assembly on August 24.
The Las Cruces Office of the Bureau of Land Management partners with the Bureau of Sports Fisheries and Wildlife to control kangaroo rats across about 50 000 acres on Lordsburg area ranches including Brock Cattle Co James S Cureton and Charles and Martha Fuller. Destructive habits such as clipping grass seeds burrowing stock tanks and erosion structures make control highly desirable with past treatments proving beneficial.
Saucedo's Food Market has installed a modern self-service grocer mat in the southside parking lot. It offers refrigerated and frozen foods 24 hours, with milk eggs bread lunch meats ice cream pies and TV dinners. Customers insert exact coins select items and merchandise dispenses. Public invited to view.
Among attendees at the School Bus Drivers Institute held this week at Western University are Mrs. Bob Tibbs Naomi Gruwell Faye Gruwell Ida Walters and Mrs. Cora Kerr.
Marine Corps recruiters, Sgt. A Martinez and Sgt. Stalder, will be in Lordsburg on August 4 1966 from 1 to 2 pm at the Selective Service Office to interview applicants. They will discuss the Two Year active duty plan Aviation Duty enlistments and the 120 Day Delay and Volunteer Now Serve Later programs.
