Texaco oil favors multiple use lands plan in New Mexico

Texaco Oil division manager D T McCreary of Midland says BLM lands should be returned to all people under a multiple use concept. He notes 1.4 million acres in Hidalgo Otero Dona Ana Luna and Grant counties are slated for intensive inventory, aimed at mineral development including oil gas geothermal and uranium. He criticizes BLM and Forest Service wilderness programs while citing public comments and extensive federal land holdings.

Tornado Nearly Hits Silver City South of Town

A rare Southwest New Mexico tornado moved near Silver City Tuesday afternoon causing dark skies and alarms in Grant County. Residents reported a funnel that touched down briefly, uprooted trees, and drew crowds to watch as authorities directed people to shelter at the courthouse fallout shelter. No injuries were reported and observers described the sight as a “screaming jet” while debris rose and fell in the quiet area south of town.
