Tornado Nearly Hits Silver City South of Town
A rare Southwest New Mexico tornado moved near Silver City Tuesday afternoon causing dark skies and alarms in Grant County. Residents reported a funnel that touched down briefly, uprooted trees, and drew crowds to watch as authorities directed people to shelter at the courthouse fallout shelter. No injuries were reported and observers described the sight as a “screaming jet” while debris rose and fell in the quiet area south of town.
