Fair Parade Plans Advance For Hidalgo County Fair
The Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce previews the 1986 Fair Parade set for Friday August 22 at 2:00 p.m. with the theme Toward The Future. Contest entries totaled 47 including Lets Party Hidalgo County Land of Wine and Roses and Wildest Dreams. Cash prizes of 100 70 and 30 will be awarded in each division. Brett Hogan Awarded Posthumous Commission
The late Brett C. Hogan of Playas was awarded a posthumous commission as second lieutenant at Officer Candidate School graduation ceremonies held July 27 at the New Mexico Military Academy in Roswell. Hogan was killed in action.

Absentee Ballots Availability for Local Special School Election

Balloon Festival Scheduled in Lordsburg Aug 15
The Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Annual Balloon Festival on August 15. Six hot air balloonists have confirmed for the 1986 Third Annual Balloon Festival with events including a Friday registration, Shakespeare and Steins tours, a Saturday dance, and a 6:30 a.m. balloon lift off at the County Fair Grounds. Admission to the dance is 3 dollars for singles and 5 dollars for couples.

Phelps Dodge Reports 1986 Cash Profit and Copper Sales
Phelps Dodge reports profit exclusive of 16 100 tons mined at Morenci for Suminomo interests acquired 15 percent stake as of February 7 1986. Copper sales totaled 101 800 tons in the 1986 second quarter and 198 700 tons for six months, against 102 700 and 191 100 tons in 1985. Manufacturing earnings from operations were 5.0 million for the first half of 1986 versus 5.7 million and 12.5 million in the prior year. Capital outlays were 22.9 million in the six months ended June 30 1986, up from 8.6 million in 1985.

Football Players To Meet Thursday
Prospective Lordsburg High School football players should be aware that there will be a squad meeting Thursday August 7 at 10 00 a.m. at the Field House. Equipment and lockers will be issued to those athletes who have taken their physicals. If an athlete did not take the physical exam that was given last May he must pick up a folder from Fred LaMarca Athletic Director at the Swimming Pool. He will then be responsible for having a physical before he can practice. The first practice will be on Monday August 11. Athletes are to be on the field by 8 00 a.m.
