Mystery surrounds collapse of Lordsburg water tank
A year ago in Lordsburg a 2.5 million gallon water tank toppled from its base near a hill at about 11 10 p m on July 31 1974. The blast or sonic boom shattered a fence and damaged pavement while no injuries were reported. Investigators sought federal help as a new tank funded by Phelps Dodge was installed.

Escapee from Ft Grant Captured in Lordsburg
Arizona escapee Maynard Gordon 25 and Bernice Harrison unknown were seized at a Lordsburg motel after tips from Safford Police. They allegedly stole a car in Safford and faced arrest by Officers Rozanski and Valenzuela. Police investigated a Miller Chevrolet break in with about 700 dollars in tools stolen. Two juveniles were arrested for curfew violation with extra charges and handed to juvenile authorities.

Lordsburg Receives Bicentennial Money
