Railroad dispute prompts national mediation board action
The Southern Pacific threatened strike by firemen and trainmen led the Chamber of Commerce to urge President Roosevelt to intervene. George A. Cook of the National Mediation Board says an emergency board, appointed by the President, investigated the dispute and delayed strike action. The act allows thirty days for investigation and a further thirty days with no changes unless agreed. The board expects this action to ease the Southern Pacific labor tensions.

Fourteen year old Pred Kerr Jr Injured in Animas Crash
Pred Kerr Jr., fourteen, son of Mr and Mrs Pred Kerr, rode with four other boys on a car driven by Felix Uthie Jr. in Animas Friday. The party, hanging on the outside, collided with a stationary truck. Kerr Jr. suffered a dangerous wound under the left arm, bruising to the chest and back, and received over twenty stitches to close a gash near a large artery. He is reported improving at Lordsburg Hospital. Herf Wood's son also suffered a minor leg injury.
