A local group urges voters to elect Irwin S. Moss and Me for state court justice. They argue these candidates are the best qualified and emphasize the importance of electing principled, competent judges.
Kike Chaires Jr. elected Commander for the Me 1962 63 year. He will be installed at Fiesta at 3 p.m. with a joint meeting of Auxiliary and Post. Past Commander Thomas A. will preside and a dinner will be served.
David D. Warren, a 32nd Degree Mason and former District Deputy Grand Master, has been reap pointed as head of the Tenth Masonic District. The district includes Deming Ty rope Silver City Mimbres Santa Rita Hurley and Lordsburg Lodges. Warren is Past Master of Lordsburg No 30 and Past Patron of Lordsburg Chapter 2 Order of the Eastern Star. He also serves as Associate Patron of O E S Rainbow Dad and on the Advisory Board for Lordsburg Assembly 17 Rainbow for Girls.
Jose Esquivel has been selected for the All State Team of Post Commanders for 1961 62 by Veterans of Foreign Wars. Edward A. Allen, commander, praises Esquivel for leadership and cooperation at Post 3099. He will receive a diamond lapel emblem during the Alamogordo convention session Friday morning June 22.
Gra ham of Las Cruces officiated at the Lordsburg Lion Club meeting with Deputy Dist. Gov. Lionel D. Haight and Ralph A. Maag. He presented a past president pin and plaque to Damon Dunagan and discussed the annual Senior Boys banquet at the Legion Hall on May 1.
Instructions on using the new voting machines will be given Tuesday evening May 1 at 7 30 at City Hall. County Clerk Emma J Scofield and Damon Dunagan will be on hand to instruct voters. Printed names and offices are posted on the machines being demonstrated.
At the Chamber of Commerce directors meeting on Friday April 20 Mrs. Jim Bounds was elected secretary and will start duties May 6. Replacing secretary Margarite Codding who stays until May 15. Gilbert Buvens and Dudley Robertson became directors of the New Mexico Interstate Highway committee to study by passes for cities and engage with the highway department. Buvens also attended the Albuquerque Chamber banquet to represent Lordsburg.
R Reed Hatch assistant area vice president of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph died Tuesday at Saint Vincent's Hospital Santa Fe after a heart attack ten days earlier. His wife Elva Bradberry of Lordsburg survived with a son J Brent of Santa Fe and three daughters Edith Medaris Lois Box and Jane Franks. Funeral set at L D S Chapel Roswell Friday April 27 at 2 30 p m.
Recount results in Lordsburg ward votes with Eugene Noce and Francisco Chaires Jr prevailing over Fred Ewing and Foy Powell by six and two vote margins. Judge George Reese voided ballots from voters outside Lordsburg, reducing totals and upholding original recount adjustments.
Mrs. Marvella Reed chairs the 1962 Cancer Crusade and announces Hidalgo County's Cancer Fund Drive will be Monday April 30. Volunteers will call on residents to distribute educational literature and collect donations under the slogans Fight Cancer with a Checkup and a Check and To Cure Many Give More. The drive aims to exceed last year's county total to aid cancer relief locally.
Wesley Freeburg Superintendent of Lordsburg Municipal Schools thanks contributing clubs and drivers who reduced charges to transport about 65 students daily from Wilson and South Side schools to the cafetorium for meals, noting anonymous gifts and local paper publication as the thanks.
The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary sponsor a Mexican Plate supper at Legion Hall on April 28 from 5 to 9 pm. Proceeds of one dollar per plate will go to the building fund.
