Indians Fall To Lula Game In Tight 6 4 Loss

Deming Indians lost a close 6 to 4 game to Lula team Lula Cubs, with Morales scoring for the Indians until sixth. Lula offense broke through in seventh and ninth innings, while Indians bullpen faltered late, and Lula walked off with the win.

VFW Auxiliary Installations Elect Officers at District Enampment

Members of VFW Auxiliary District 4 elected and installed officers at Hoge Post 3347 and others. Kateryne Grimes became president, with Mary Lou Gomale and Ethel Myers among vice presidents and ward officers named. Southern Pacific R R Pays Second Half of County Taxes

Hidalgo County records show Local Freight Agent F E Johnson paying 833 955 09 to the county treasurer as the second half of the 1955 Hidalgo County tax bill. The payment allocates 15071 04 to county agencies 32658 68 to schools 811 18 to Lordsburg and 19369 30 to the State.

Lordsburg Senior Band Concert Delights Large Audience

The Lordsburg Senior High Band under Roger Brandt performed a Sting concert to a crowded study hall audience. The 71 member group played pieces by Osterburg Brahms Padilla Grieg and others and earned over 175 dollars for the Band Parents Organization with post concert refreshments and awards to students Alice Chavez Lucille Meard Willa Lunt and Jim Redford.

Smith to Leave Lordsburg for New Mexico Western College

Jim Smith head basketball coach for two years at Lordsburg will depart this fall to take the same position at New Mexico Western College. A Western University graduate, he captained Western's undefeated senior team and chaired the Associated Students. His Lordsburg teams posted strong records, with the 1955 squad reaching the Class D finals and the 1955-56 group dropping only three conference games. No successor has been named.

Advisory Board of Credit Bureau Meets At Office

The newly elected Advisory Board of the local Credit Bureau met at the bureau office on Thursday evening April 19. General Manager Robert F. Pruitt and local manager John Thede plus board members Harold Bishop Leo Cohen Roe Hallmark George Jeffus and Clem Pochelu attended. They discussed membership growth aiming for at least fifty local businesses and considered a debtor education program with a Pay Your Accounts By the 10th of Each Month slogan. Thede urged cooperation among business and professional men to raise credit standards.

County Treasurer June Dunagan reports El Paso Natural Gas Company paid 40 473 08 for the year 1955 into Hidalgo County treasury. It is the second largest taxpayer and funds go to county schools Lordsburg city state of New Mexico and Hidalgo County budget.

Lordsburg Track Teams Finish 1-2 in Week of Dual Meets

Lordsburg High School track squads went 1 win and 2 losses in three dual meets. They defeated Cliff 64 43 but fell to Cobra 83 43 and to Western B 71 66. District 4B meet at Silver City is set for tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

Emergency Operation By Local Doctor

A local doctor performed an emergency abdominal operation on a twelve year old girl at Hi laigo County Hospital. The surgery began around six o clock and a blackout from Lysening struck an hour before. Lights failed for a period but returned, and the operation was completed by seven with no complications. The patient was discharged a few days later.
