Lordsburg hosted the thirty first annual New Mexico Bankers Convention with banquets, entertainment by Frances Barnwell and the Blue Bonnet octette, and speeches by E M Brickley and Col Hugh Milton. Highlights included a Friday afternoon exhibit of old Wells Fargo gear, a Chuck Wagon supper, and talks on finance, livestock trends, and foreign policy. Taos selected as 1942 convention site.
The burial honors for John Thomas McCabe honor a founder of Lordsburg First National Bank and lifelong Mason and Knight of Pythias member. He died after chest pains at his son’s home in Silver City following a Bankers Association banquet appearance. He leaves wife Ida Wilson and two children, with services at Mountain View Cemetery conducted by the Masonic Order.

Deming and Silver City bank ladies at Bear Mountain Lodge and by Mr. and Mrs. Phil Lynch at Tyrone. The registration committee chaired by Miss Lula Johnson provided the best service of any convention. Bank representatives came from New York Texas Colorado Arizona Missouri California and Oklahoma with outsiders from Dallas Denver El Paso San Francisco Amarillo Duncan Kansas City Los Angeles New York City Fort Worth and Douglas. Registration exceeded 175. Banker Brickley praised for handling a large convention in Lordsburg. The association honored former Governor James F. Hinkle for 50 years in banking.
At the urging of its sister society in Great Britain the American Red Cross asks for 1000 young American doctors to reinforce Britain's Royal Army Medical Corps and civilian Emergency Medical Service. Volunteers meeting requirements will be referred by the British Red Cross and need not swear allegiance nor lose American citizenship. They will be protected by the Red Cross Treaty of Geneva.
Mrs Goldie Campbell Shander son died in Lordsburg on April 20 1941 She was born June 16 1880 and married Abner Lewis Pyles on July 10 1900 They had four children two died in infancy Joseph Pyles of Lordsburg and Mrs Vita May Townsend of Lake Arthur Lotviana Surviving husband Oliver Sander son To be interred at Mountain View Cemetery Funeral services were at the Baptist church Rev Paul H Elmore presided with music by the Baptist choir Mrs Sam Goss pianist Pallbearers were Sam Gans Tom J Mayfield FE M Fisher Joe Rouse Basil Giles and FE D Wright.
One of the outstanding musical events of the season is an evening of music at the Methodist church on Monday April 28 at 8 p m featuring the choir and guest artist. The cantata Faiths Easter Heritage will be repeated with new numbers to reach about two hours. Admission is a free will offering. Everyone is invited.
A group of youngsters gathered Monday at Mr and Mrs Harry Gale to celebrate Hazel Lane Gale s third birthday. Guests helped by Mrs James La Ne Mrs F Martin and Mrs H W Clark enjoyed ice cream frosting and spring decor with a May Pole centerpiece. Hazel received gifts from attendees and birthday guest Mrs J H Clark also marked her own birthday anniversary as honored guest.
Lions Club proceedings note Warren E Clarke from Woodbury College Los Angeles spoke on student success. Gladys Malone a Lordsburg High School and Woodbury College graduate cited for top honors and career options in LA. Jack Mathews Hidalgo county spelling champion junior scout to El Paso contest May 4. May 6 Lions Night at high school Home Economics department at 7 30 p m. Bankers Association meeting drew financiers from seven states eleven cities. Play night at the Womans Club reported.
The annual convention drew praise as the best ever with high marks for hospitality. Attendees called the Lordsburg gathering outstanding, noting the Spirit of Lordsburg and generous greeting from locals and visitors alike.

Jack Hopkins aged seven a first grade student died on Sunday. Police hold the body pending an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Sixty four golfers from Hurley Silver City Fort Bayard Deming and Lordsburg took part in the Fort Bayard one day tourney. President Harry Althaus hosted and won the championship by defeating Tex Maddox of Lordsburg in ten holes. Lordsburg club plans an May 4 event aiming for sixty to seventy golfers and an eight or nine hole format.
The Band Parents Club plans two fundraisers to buy new band uniforms. An enchilada supper is set for April 20 at 5 PM in the Methodist church undercroft, and a May 30 food ware at the Community Public Service Company office on Saturday morning. Donations of cooked foods are welcomed, and volunteers should contact Mrs J A Wathan or Mrs Mary Lee Fairly.
Postmaster Eugene Montague announces Defense Savings Bonds available May 1. The new bonds resemble Baby Bonds from recent years. a $18.75 bond matures to $26 in ten years. Secretary Morganthau urges even children to save, saying it supports national defense and safeguards personal finances.
Seven members of the new women s golf club played a nine hole round and shared a lunch at 1 pm. A meeting is hoped next Tuesday with more participants. Those needing transportation may call 127 for a ride. The note promotes golf as healthy and urges attendance with a potluck lunch.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lacy of Banner Mine hosted house guests Mrs. R. L. West Mrs. J. C. West and baby Betty Jean and Mr. and Mrs. Claude West of Carlsbad. They toured Silver City Hurley and Tucson to visit relatives including Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Dannelley and Mrs. Lacy’s two brothers.

Grand Chancellor McHalffey presents Peter Kemp of Cliff New Mexico a Fifty year veteran membership pin honoring over five decades as a Knights of Pythias member with Porterville California lodge support. The event featured musical numbers a literature program and speeches emphasizing friendship and brotherhood.

Miss Azzalee Gee daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom B Gee wed Doyle Hayes manager of the New Mexico Employment office in a ceremony at the Methodist parsonage Silver City The couple had ties to public welfare and Stenography service with Gee a L H S graduate noted as a popular young member of the community
