A local exhibit named Ven Persons or Pictures opens in Hazelton featuring land and related items. The show highlights two land stakes and a final tally of 24 items, with one remaining display still active.
Treasurer Juno Duna reports Southern Pacific paid $492.49 as the rail installment, part of a 1953 tax bill totaling $68,985.39. Rail taxes go to Lords Schools and Lordsburg with remaining funds directed to the city.
The U S Civil Service Commission announces an examination to fill the fourth class postmaster position at Animas New Mexico with a salary of 2611 dollars. Applicants must reside within the post office area and be aged 21 to 65, with veteran preference waivers possible. Full details and forms available at the Animas office or the Washington office. Applications due May 13 1954.
The Lordsburg High School Band led by director Roger Brandt will perform in Bisbee on April 29 at the Lowell Auditorium. The next day, April 30, a concert in Douglas is planned, with a May 1 appearance by a Lordsburg horn quartet and two soloists at the University of Arizona Festival in Tucson. Patsy Crouch and Laura Yacamo are among the soloists. Judges expect high ratings.
Brigadier General David M. Shopu notes a foundation linked to the Second Finance Division Association will fund college education for the sons and daughters of the Division’s heroic dead. The item refers to Robert Sherrod and mentions an extension to page 7.

Lordsburg schools ask parents cooperation for the annual spring Round-up at Central School on Saturday April 24 from 9 to 11 A M. Children entering the next school year will visit the school meet first grade teachers receive physical and dental checks and be immunized against diphtheria and smallpox.
Alton A. Powell announces relocation from Lordsburg to Phoenix with his wife and two children. Active civic leader since 1941, he served as deacon, Knights of Pythias member, Lions Club president, and Chamber of Commerce director. Son Jimmy graduates high school this May. daughter Patsy teaches in Safford.
Children of Lordsburg and nearby areas may have their photos taken free today at the Hidalgo Hotel from 11 AM to 6 PM. Parents or guardians must accompany them, with optional prints or cutouts arranged through Wolts Studios of Deaf Mathes Iowa, offering no obligation to purchase.
High school band led by Mr Brandt presents a Friday 8 PM concert in the study hall featuring six instrumental soloists and a horn quartet. Soloists include Arthur Richards Jr and Laura Yacamo with several other named players. program includes two recent marches and a horn ensemble noted as outstanding in the state. The acoustics of the study hall are highlighted as the concert venue with a varied modern program and several oboe and clarinet solos, intermission, and accompaniment by band members.
